Winter Dehumidified Skin

seeker

Question

Posted

Off the wall, but I'm actually having problems playing necks with a satin neck finish (G&L).

Moved work locations since last winter, and the skin on my hands is almost as dry as a mummy's behind. Fingers keeps slipping around and can't get a good grip.

Could slather on some corner-store product, but don't want to be greasing up my guitars too.

Recommendations?

Thanks all

I've got plaque psoriasis on one hand and the only thing I've found that works worth a damn to soften up the plaques and not greasy things up or feel like another shell on my hand is Gold Bond Ultimate. Rub it in well and your guitars won't mind a bit. Goes a long way toward helping to hold a pick too.

Thanks guys.

Wow, information overload on their websites. Curel has Sensitive Skin, Daily Moisture, Ultra Healing, Nourishing, and Hand/Cuticle Therapy while Gold Bond Ultimate has Healing, Restoring, Soothing, and Softening formulations.

I'll just figure it out. lol.

You could always put a humidifier in your house...

Got one installed with new HVAC unit a few years back. Before that, would sometimes get blinding sinus headaches. Will check the filter to make sure it's okey dokey . . .

I use the Healing, now that you mention it. I forgot about the different variants.

I've heard people swear by Bag Balm or Udder Cream...the stuff they use on cow's udders, works great on chapped hands too I'm told. Not sure if it's guitar finish safe, though.

When it cold out I have to use Bag Balm or else my fingertips dry out and crack. Not much fun on the picking hand and pure hell on the fretting hand! :-)

I put on a bunch each night before going to sleep. When it's really cold I need to also put some on some time during the day although it doesn't take much. I would not trust it around my guitars so you have to plan around that.

Bag Balm was kind of fashionable a number of years back. I think Shaina Twain said she used it...

Yeah, who wouldn't like to balm her bags?

If you can go with the minor, discomfort, two slightly, loose, fitting plastic gloves whilst you sleep at night utilises your bodies own natural oils, also helps my nails from becoming brittle too.

And makes wanking off seem like someone else is doing it (oops, did I say that out loud?).
