iRig IK Amplitube problems

I got an iRig for Christmas and am using it with an iPhone 3GS. The unit sounds good but has a MASSIVE amount of noise inherent in the system. By noise, I don't mean hiss, I mean actual f**king noises, pops and squeals coming from the unit. It makes noises without even having the guitar turned up. I tried everything that I could (rebooting, turning off Airplane mode and having it plugged into the wall outlet adapter) and the unit is still making a bunch of pops and noises. Squealing feedback randomly occurs when I least expect it.

I looked online and many other people are having the same problem. Anyone use the iRig with an iPhone 3GS and have similar experiences? Anyone use it with a 3GS and get good results with no noises or artifacts?

I want to stomp it, burn it and then drop it in the middle of the ocean. It is a piece of shit.

Or is it just that IK and Apple were using wishful thinking when claiming that the iRig and Amplitude would work with 3GS? Did they know that the 3GS was woefully underpowered for this setup when they looked at how much money they could make by only selling it to 4G and iPad customers?

Was the next thought, "Gee, we won't make a single dime by selling it to only 4G and iPad users... we'll actually lose money. We'll have to say that it will work with the 3G when we know damn well that it won't."?

F**k, I want this thing to work. :)

I brought it back for all of those reasons. I heard the Peavey one was better but I don't want to bother.

You are supposed to buy an iPhone4.

Not that it helps, but I have an iPhone 4 and it has none of those issues with the iRig/Amplitube app. I also downloaded the Peavey app and promptly deleted it because of all the noise/squeals/etc. I think the Peavey app requires the Peavey input device perhaps....

One major problem was dirty input jacks. Some people carry the iphone in their pocket but rarely put the headphone/mic plug in and the jack gets dirty. I use it on an ipod touch and it works great. I don't have an iphone so I can't compare.

Do you have one Apple white iPhone headset (with MIC) handy? (it comes with the iPhone).

Pls check if by using that you can hear your voice through the amps and fxs.

If NOT this means the problem is on the iPhone headset connector, it may be dirty or defective.

I have the Peavey unit and use it with my ipod touch. It has a AA battery which must help boost and/or filter the signal. The Peavey lit claims it stops feedback and eliminates latency.

I had a terrible squeal the first time i plugged it in, but it sorted itself out in less than a second, and has been noise free ever since (I do turn the volume on the ipod and guitar down when setting it up.

The sample amp they provide is their Valveking 100 head, which happens to be my head. It does a good job of emulating it.

The app itself has received updates with improved features/functions.

The combination isn't as versatile as my korg pandora, but for $30 I'm not complaining. one less electronic device to carry around.

I used the iRig with Peavy app with no problems. In fact it sounded better than the amplitude app and has more options on the free version. I can't find but one sound on the free amplitude app. I am using a direct box to run mine through a PA. That may make a difference.

Ditto, I've used mine with iPhone 4 and an iPad without issue
