Desert Island Amp

I was thinking you could make a nice boat out of an SVT cab. Or an old Vox AC100 could start a nice fire for you.

I've been on that island for the last 4 years with my Tech 21 Trademark 60 and I have never even tried to get off.

Gotta go for my amp --

my_amp_front_detail.jpg

It Mesa Boogie MK IIC+ combo, hardwood, fully loaded simulclass.

Nothing has ever come close --- not even the same ballpark.

My JCM800 2205 with 4x12 greeback cab.

I've had this sucker since 1987 or 1988 to

lose it would be like losing a limb.

My old Bogen single ended amp converted to a 5F2A Princeton with my Pine Bluesboy open back cab with a Weber 10" 10a100 Alnico. As long as I can bring my kt66 6l6 and 6v6 tubes. This little guy does Fender and Marshall and Vox sounds for cheap.

+1 for the Roland Microcube. I just bought one two days ago so I could play at work. I can't believe the sound that comes out of the tiny thing, nor how fast you can get a usable sound to jam with any possible song.

To go over the top, I ran my guitar into my VHT Valvulator, which has two outputs. One went into the microcube, the other into my pod, and then the pod went into the aux in on the microcube. dual amp tones through that little battery-powered box

Bogen? As in funky little tube P.A. rigs?

I would be content with my Mesa Mk III (Purple stripe) and Marshall 1965A, especially if I could rest it under a shady Palm tree and never have to move it again.

Dasein, that is one sweet package for the desert island. What sort of tone are you shooting for with the EQ set like that? Z

I used to set the eq. like that when I wanted a real deep and dark ballsy metal tone in the lead channel --- a metallicaesque tone without the tinnyness (more Alice In Chainsesque). I played a Fender equipped with humbuckers in those days (early to late 80's) and the eq. in that configuration really moved a lot of air. It required a lot of reverb or a little delay to make it wetter, but at the right volume and with the lead drive set to 10, it was an amazing tone with that particular guitar. It recorded very well too.

When I started playing my Hamer, that specific eq. setting didn't work as well for me - so I set the eq. much more neutral or more classic V.

The lead channel is amazing, but for cleans --- OMG -- like the voice of God. Clear bell tones that wrap their arms around you and whisper the secrets of the universe in your ear. Some of the best days I spent as a player were with the amp set up in the back yard in the sun, and me sitting out there all alone playing along with the birds.

ahhhh, the desert island thread again.

Okay, desert island means if you play it everyday you wont get tiresome of playing it. I tend to be all over the map as far as styles I play. Sometimes it's 70s rock, sometimes 80s, sometimes hard metal, 60s jangle, twang, folk. Depends on the day/week/mood (hormones?).

Mine would have to cover all these things. AND I'm a volume nut so I'de want the passing ships to know I'm there, SO it would have to be LOUD (microcube eliminated). Plus, it can have alot of knobs because I'll have alot of time to tweak. AND a "safe" thing to pick would be something you already have. We like to justify our own purchases.

So, by only picking 1. By reputation (I've never played one), I'm guessing a DIESEL. But, seeing as I've never played one, I'de go with one I've played: Mesa ROADKING. I would have to be able to have an open and closed back cab though, and I'de need a pedal to fulfill the missing vox-like tones...say a MATCHLESS HOTBOX. And I'm also hoping to have a multi-effect unit in the loop say an EVENTIDE? Yes, I did pick all items I can't afford.

a desert island guitar to go with this will take more thought.
