anotherfreak2 Posted September 7, 2005 Posted September 7, 2005 So I've been digging through the old CDs and today I'm spinning Extreme's first album. OMFG this was some awesome riffage!!! Nuno has such timing, it's amazing! As a rhythm player he's killer and his solos are outrageous(no matter how cheezy some of the songs are)it's just, like, WOW!anybody else listening to stuff that makes you go wow!
eightyfour Posted September 7, 2005 Posted September 7, 2005 I think one of the most overlooked and under rated players in rock is Extreme's bass player, I think it was Pat Badger. I don't what that guy's up to right now, but he was bad-ass in the Extreme stuff.
Turdus Posted September 7, 2005 Posted September 7, 2005 I never dug the first album, but have been spinning the 2nd over the last 3 months or so. Whatever that little number is that he does before "He Man, Woman Hater" is outrageous! Nuno has a lot of good stuff on that one.

guitarzandstuff Posted September 7, 2005 Posted September 7, 2005 I agree.. the first CD is the SHIT!!!
iownit4 Posted September 7, 2005 Posted September 7, 2005 OK the album is great !! the bass player Pat was playing in a band called STA .....supertransatlantic they had an album out called shuttlecock..The band had the guitar player Jason Belier from Saigon Kick..thats another band u guys should listen too .they were ahead of there time and got stuck in the hair metal class ..the guitar player rips,,, better then Nuno by far .. He's(Jason) a better song writer and has better phasing in his solo's.. I love Nuno too ,but he was just an extention of Eddie.. the same with Vito Bratta from whitelion..Thats just me saying.. who the hell am I .. just some cover band guitar player, learning how to play there songs...Rob D .......NY
anotherfreak2 Posted September 7, 2005 Author Posted September 7, 2005 .................Jason Belier ............ I do think the combo of Pat/Jason is awesome from Saigon Kick, but I think it's better 'cause it doesn't have Gary, gary gets in the way with some of the Extreme tunes. AND Pat friggin' rocks!!!!!! ya know, for a bass player
Steve Haynie Posted September 7, 2005 Posted September 7, 2005 Some friends and I saw Extreme open for Danger Danger at the Masquerade in Atlanta at about the time Pornograffiti came out. We left a little early and got to meet the guys from Extreme as they were getting on their bus. One kid goes up to Nuno and says, "How do you do all those tricks on guitar?" Nuno shot back with, "Those aren't tricks, that's practice!"
SteveB Posted September 7, 2005 Posted September 7, 2005 Nuno is amazing, his sense of timing is incredible. Pornographitti is the best album out of the "hair band" era, IMHO. close second would be "Slave to the Grind" from Skid Row, although neither guitarist was anywhere near Nuno's caliber. I saw Extreme as they were waning, but they were still a great band.
jettster Posted September 8, 2005 Posted September 8, 2005 As much as I like the music and guitarists from that era. I have to chime in as a Nuno hater, never did like him for some reason. I saw Extreme with Winger one time and enjoyed the backup guitarist for Winger(Paul Taylor I think) along with Reb much more.

Personally I dont think much of say, somone like BB King....just dont get him but apparently hes very good at what he does.
Jason01 Posted September 8, 2005 Posted September 8, 2005 Been saying it for years, that first Extreme album just kills. I can't listen to "play with me" without wishing I had a tenth of that talent. The third album is pretty dang good too. I like to put the headphones on and listen from track 8 to the end. Not sure what it is but theres an intimacy that comes across better with the headphones and I like to hear how it all builds to the end. Saw them open for ZZ top years back and they rocked. Not sure if the ZZ Top crowd really knew what to think but I thought it was great.
RobB Posted September 8, 2005 Posted September 8, 2005 I think he and Kirk Hamster use the same nail polish! In the early 90's I worked at Washburn's factory in Chicago (right before Grover Jackson came in) and Nuno used to come in when Extreme was in town. I had to laugh when talking guitars with his tech: Apparently, after their second album started to do well, his managment/label convinced him to get some rhinoplasty surgery. The band's roadies teased him mercilessly for a year, calling him "New-nose!" Killer player, though. Personally, I wasn't a big fan of Extreme's material, but I can always appreciate good musicianship. Like EVH, I think listeners tend to downplay his rhythm/songwriting chops...

A lot of people have skills including this guy http://www.francescofareri.com/main.html but, I don't care for him either. It's not that I don't get him, just never liked him, I hear what your saying though.
Guest slim Posted September 8, 2005 Posted September 8, 2005 I grew up in Mass, and used to see "Extreme" when they were "The Dream". Actually had a rehersal room down the hall from them for a while. Then a network comes out with a show that has a band called "The Dream". They made some $$, changed the name, and got Nuno in the lineup. I saw one of the first gigs with Nuno at a now defunct place called "The Channel". Blew everyone away. This kid with Joe Perry looks, just smiling and cranking out some amazing stuff. The first cut from Pornografitti is, in my opinion, a tune that captures a lot of what the guy could do at the time. Unbelieveable. I think his head got a bit too big for him though. But I guess when you are 20 or so and are playing on the "Guitar Hero" tour with Joe Walsh, Brian May, Vai, Satrianni, etc...it could happen. Slim
silentman Posted September 8, 2005 Posted September 8, 2005 Ahh, the Channel. <bows head> That was a cool place.
SteveB Posted September 8, 2005 Posted September 8, 2005 the old VHS tapes for "the Freddy Mercury Tribute concert" had Extreme doing a kick ass set of Queen tunes. Unfortunatly, it looks like that was cut from the DVD version.
Tres Aardvarks Posted September 8, 2005 Posted September 8, 2005 Pat is an Alpaca farmer now I always dug that kind of bassist. Pat has chops, but totally lays back and holds the groove, only popping out occasionally for riffage. My preference on Extreme albums varies, some days I really dig any one of the first 3 over the others. Like so many other bands of that era, it's the lyrics that turn me off the first album
