hectorp Posted March 31, 2012 Posted March 31, 2012 Now that it's impossible to find ABM bridges...which of the MannMade bridges is a drop-in replacement for the cheesy Wilkinson in my Mirage I?The Vintage Vibrato Bridge Assemby? orThe 2020 Classic Vibrato BridgeThanksChris
atquinn Posted April 1, 2012 Posted April 1, 2012 The 2020 bridge is a 2-point trem; definitely not a drop-in replacement. The Vintage Vibrato is a drop-in replacement though. As is the Super-Vee Bladerunner (the one designed for 6-screw bridge replacement) and the Gotoh 510 series 6-hole designs.-Austin
cmatthes Posted April 1, 2012 Posted April 1, 2012 I'd try the BladeRunner if I was swapping out right now, but my vintage MannMade PRS trem is the best trem I've ever played.

Agree to all of the above, however: I replaced the wonky, plinky stock Wilkie in my old Mirage II with this Gotoh/Wilkie, drop-in replacement: Wilkie "Comtemporary" 6-holer This was a capital improvement over the stock tremolo, stayed in tune well with the locking tuners and added more "booty/body" to the sound. YMMV, but it worked for me at the time. Plus, @$81.06 it's a real-world alternative to a Mann-Made trem. The Blade Runner does, however, seem to have the logical, mechanical advance in drop-in replacements.

Blade Runner for sure. I bought one from Murkat and put it on Kiz's Mirage. Being a Machinist by trade I was impressed with the concept of the V Trem. It makes perfect since. Solid mounting bar so no worries about how high to set the screws, Spring Steel clamped between the bar and the trem that allows it to pivot (brilliant). Soldi as all get out saddles, I highly recomend this trem. Also after removing and cleaning the Wilky I have a higher appreciation for it. Give you a vintage vibe tone and the saddles my look flimsy but they are under so much tension being bend and screwed down that they are solid as a rock. I use to get false harmonics on every Daytona that I have had and I always blamed that bridge. Once I purchased my T-51 and realized it does the same thing I realized that was not the case. It is actually the absence of string trees that causes it someone. The long distance between the nut and the tuners lets the strings vibrate to cause a false harmonics. Keith Urban knows what i'm talking about.
hectorp Posted April 1, 2012 Author Posted April 1, 2012 Thanks all for the excellent recommendations. I think I'll try the Super-Vee Blade Runner.
spanky Posted April 3, 2012 Posted April 3, 2012 All parts is have a $100 closeout for ABM trems...http://www.allparts.com/Sales-and-Closeouts-s/184.htm?searching=Y&sort=7&cat=184&show=20&page=6

MCChris Posted March 10, 2013 Posted March 10, 2013 Wilkie "Comtemporary" 6-holerMight have to go this route. Sho'nuff, the stock Wilkie on my Mirage II is starting to rattle a bit.
BubbaVO Posted March 10, 2013 Posted March 10, 2013 I'd try the BladeRunner if I was swapping out right now, but my vintage MannMade PRS trem is the best trem I've ever played.I had the same experience with my MM trem. I'm saving my scheckles for a blade runner for my mirage maple top.
