Paint chip (how to fix)...

Victor (Fret Friend)

Question

I just bought a BC Rich Mockingbird ST (for 40% retail = a bargain). It was in pristine condition but the seller (eBay) just messaged me saying he dropped it removing it from his wall mount). Here is the damage...

I told him I still want the guitar. I was thinking of digging this out (gently) & re-gluing the bits back in the covering with some kind of clear lacquer. Any tips (it doesn't have to be super-pro fix). I paid just over £200 for it (retails at £500+ here). It's the model with all the knick-knacks (Varitone/FR/MAFIA p-ups)...

It's the only pic I have (the seller sent it via an ebay message). The guitar is in Scotland, I am in England. The seller is a little difficult to get hold of (it appears). At first, I thought he was 'pulling a fast one' as I got the guitar so cheaply (it's a year old [only] and WAS unblemished). I told him I still wanted the guitar (as I have organized a courier to deliver him a hard case & I have also organized a return courier [at my expense of course]...

I won't receive the guitar until after next weekend (I am moving house Tuesday & with the couriers etc, it's the earliest I can get it)...

Very nice ax, Vic! Don't know what to tell you about the patch job though.

Hard to tell from that pic. Doesn't really look that deep. Might get away with just Super Glue. Or a felt tip & SG.

Maybe better pics after you get the guit.

Nice guitar anyway.

This works great:

I have fixed two dings in my green Studio with this, sealed another ding that was through the paint just to get the gloss even, and repaired a where the skunk strip on the back of a Telecaster neck had separated a little from the maple leaving some splits and dings in the finish. Just drop the super glue in, wait 24 hours, scrape it down, buff it out, and go about your business.

Thanks guys! Good tips/video. I'll post more pre-fix/outcome in a couple of weeks when we're back on the internet (moving house tomorrow)...

Will have a good luck when I get the guitar. From what I can tell by the pic, the paint has been pushed in. I am thinking of picking it out (gently, adding a little filler & replacing the chips then either lacquering or adding SG...

Love the mockingbirds! That ones stellar. You'll probally do more damage to it anyway, so dont sweat the ding. Happy rocking!

super thin CA glue. that will probably even move into all of the cracks with capillary action, and then will dry quickly. then you just need to build up some layers, sand down, and buff it out.

I'll look into the CA glue fix, thanks!

Update: The guy received my Explorer hard-case today & will ship the Mockingbird out to me tomorrow (we're all fixed up in the new house btw). = just gotta unpack 3 ton of stuff now...
