elduave Posted September 30, 2014 Posted September 30, 2014 If I may, a tech. request. Get some kind of compressor/hard limiting going. The one dude (main host?) is way loud and the other two dudes (you and other dude) are whisper quiet. Really tough to listen to in the car. Trying to though! Downloaded about half of them the other day.

Downloaded about half of them the other day. Thanks, I've been thinking about that recently. I have a Behringer rack unit I can try. Any idea how to hook that up to a powered mixer?
elduave Posted September 30, 2014 Posted September 30, 2014 Probably just hook the mics into the rack u and send to mixer channels. Host dudes mic has to come way down regardless. When he laughs it's almost a deal breaker listening-wise. Speakers seize up and what not. Right now it's adjust volume for him and not hear you guys or deal with the huge disparity. Maybe less weed and coke.
MCChris Posted September 30, 2014 Author Posted September 30, 2014 Interesting. I've listened to every episode and while not perfect, it sounds fine to me. Although I've listened on earbuds/headphones almost exclusively. I've had a couple going in the car, though, and I didn't notice any major problems. Any proper radio show does need compression/limiting.
alantig Posted October 1, 2014 Posted October 1, 2014 "I Want You" is a song that's a bit tainted by the live version for me. That Paul caterwauling, at some point, just started to rub me the wrong way. ("100,000 Years" is in the same kind of boat.) I'm not sure I've ever given the studio version its due because of that. I seem to recall reading somewhere that Paul and Ace both solo in that song - it sounds like Paul first to me. (Wikipedia says it's so, so it must be true!)But 8-tracks a "ridiculous implementation"??? Oh the pain! I still have the last 8-track player the Radio Shack in the mall in Fredericksburg, VA sold. Still worked the last time I had it hooked up (I need to bring it out again. I think my car 8-track player is still at my parents' house - I was toying with the idea of having it installed in my vehicle when I had to have the radio replaced last year. As for the Halloween idea, I like it. Kevin Smith did something like that with "Roadhouse", I think, and they ended up recording a commentary track with him for one of the DVD releases. Do you guys have the original US/NBC version, or will you have to go with the Anthology European cut? There are some odd differences, including cutting in music from the solo albums. Look out for black Ace!

Downloaded about half of them the other day. ya know, i think about this every time i listen to POT, but never get around to emailing you. its brutal w/ earbuds.if your powered mixer has an FX loop, put 'er in there. or an aux send/return. worst case put it inline after the mixer before the recorder. depending on what software you are using, there might be a plug in you can post process with.
MCChris Posted October 1, 2014 Author Posted October 1, 2014 Maybe less weed and coke.you, or them? haOr both o' youse. Deal-breaker? Brutal? I'm simply not hearing it to that extent. And I'm the sober one of the three of us!
elduave Posted October 2, 2014 Posted October 2, 2014 Never under influence when I listen. I like listening for my 1am ride home after the cbs gig.
elduave Posted October 2, 2014 Posted October 2, 2014 Maybe less weed and coke. you, or them? haHa. I'd be scared to do blow at my weight. It was a reference to the Talk To Me episode IIRC.
MCChris Posted October 2, 2014 Author Posted October 2, 2014 Next episode recorded last night, compressor added to the chain. Seemed to be working. Everything lit up on the unit, at least. You guys will have to let me know how it turns out (good song, btw, so it shouldn't be a chore). Thanks for pointing this out, though. I knew we needed this since episode 1 but I was just too lazy to incorporate it.

I knew we needed this since episode 1 but I was just too lazy to incorporate it.It could be that you didn't notice a problem on your system...stuff always sounds slightly different from system to system. To my understanding, that's a big part of the reason that people get stuff mastered. I listened to one of the podcasts a while back, even though I'm a casual Kiss fan, I found it pretty entertaining! edit for clarity: I mean...if you didn't notice problems with the older stuff. I haven't had a chance to check it out since you made the tech changes.

I knew we needed this since episode 1 but I was just too lazy to incorporate it.Looking forward to this. The problem (for me, at least) seemed to affect Andy more than anyone, and when he said something about not sitting next to you and Nick, I figured it was related. It seemed to be more when he talked a bit longer - he seemed to drop his volume a bit. I listen in the car, so that makes it a bit more noticeable. It seems to be a problem with the podcasts I listen to in general, not just you guys.
Montelovesco Posted October 4, 2014 Posted October 4, 2014 Big surprise. Found a envelope in the mail today - the guys from P.O.T sent me some glow in the dark picks with P.O.T-logo. Great surprise. Thanks a lot!

Check it: For iTunes users: https://itunes.apple.com/us/podcast/pod-of-thunder/id639350818For non-iTunes users: http://podofthunder.libsyn.comThis episode presumably has some compression added, so please let me know if you hear any improvement (to the sound quality; the content itself is beyond repair).
elduave Posted October 7, 2014 Posted October 7, 2014 Noticeably better. Main dude laugh still bogs down my speakers. Thanks!

Downloaded about half of them the other day. Thanks, I've been thinking about that recently. I have a Behringer rack unit I can try. Any idea how to hook that up to a powered mixer? If the mixer has aux send/return, hook it up and use the aux channel striptwo knob (1,2, or whichever aux send return you connected) to control the amount of compression you want for each channel. If the mixer has stereo aux sends, you'll need two, TRS/stereo 1/4" insert cables for both channels. But really, you can get away with using just a single channel of the. compressor and two, mono cables. If the mixer is more basic, you can use the FX send/ return and then the FX mix for each channel. Barring all this, you COULD put the compressor last in line before it hits the recorder, but this will not be optimal and may not be in stereo, depending on how many channels the compressor has.

alantig Posted October 14, 2014 Posted October 14, 2014 Yes! Looking forward to this one - I love "Strange Ways". Hopefully Ace will play it on his upcoming tour - I think he played it last time.
alantig Posted October 16, 2014 Posted October 16, 2014 I was not expecting a Kids In The Hall reference, let alone a Bruce McCulloch reference!I'm not surprised it got three hallelujahs, but I was a bit surprised it wasn't a SKKK. I'm not sure where on my list it would rank, but definitely top 20.According to Kiss Alive Forever, it was performed on two dates, 1/7/75 and 1/9/75 (two shows that day). The book quotes Mick Campese: "We tried playing 'Strange Ways' in Canada a couple of times in early 1975, but it had too much of a plodding, start-and-stop feel, and it never really went over live." Ace has apparently been playing it live for years.

alantig Posted October 21, 2014 Posted October 21, 2014 I know you guys probably got this info on Facebook or Twitter, but since I'm not there, I'll do it here. Ray Bouque wore #7 in Boston until they retired it for Phil Esposito. The thought was that Bourque would likely continue to wear #7 until he retired, but he surprised everybody by pulling off his jersey to reveal #77. The video of it is pretty cool - you can tell Espo didn't know it was coming. As I recall, only Bourque and the equipment guy knew. It's right at the beginning of this video: Paul Coffey wore #7 in Edmonton, but when he was traded to Pittsburgh, it was being worn by Rod Buskas (yes, that Rod Buskas!), so Coffey switched to #77.
