"Paul Stanley singing with an empty sack..." - unforgettable!

It's all downhill from there!

Thanks for listening everyone!

Episode 37 is now ALIVE! Andy, Chris and Nick analyze "Rockin' in the USA," one of the studio cuts from Alive II, then do a That Metal Show-style Top 5 and pick songs that would have made up a killer additional side of live material! Check it:

Good ep, and timely since I've just been listening to the second half of Alive II.

While listening to the studio cuts, I was taken by two things on "Larger Than Life" - how relatively dry Paul's backing vocals are, and how much the drums don't sound like Peter.

But more on topic w/the podcast, I hadn't given it any though until today, but it's tough to come up with five more tracks from the second three albums - "Take Me" is a no-brainer. I'd lean towards "Hooligan", "Sweet Pain", "Do You Love Me?" and either "Baby Driver" or "Mr. Speed".

Nah, it is not. Need more German chocolate for motivation? Or another fan letter?

"makin love" episode was funny

I'm listening to that one now for the first time in forever. It was done prior to us adding production bits and getting all long-winded with stuff. There are funnier episodes in your future!

Edit: forgot about the "love as a synonym for dick" segment hahaha.

Episode 38 is now ALIVE! Andy, Chris, and Nick break down "Flaming Youth" from 1976's Destroyer. Also, perhaps inspired by the first word in the song's title and the fact that it's Paul Stanley's birthday, the guys share some of the experiences they've had in gay bars. Check it:

Another cool episode - especially hearing how excited everyone got when the track was revealed.

Although when you mentioned "a guy on the Hamer Fan Club", I immediately started trying to remember everything I've said in this thread...

Flaming Youth has got to be one of my top 5 KISS songs. Dick Wagner replaced Ace on a couple of songs, because of Ace's partying (playing poker according to Ace)

and wanting to record when he wanted to, which didn't sit well with Ezin. So when it came time for the tracks to be recorded, and Ace wasn't there, Wagner got dialed up.

On Destroyer Resurrected, Sweet Pain w/ Ace's lead is a bonus track. It sounds OK, and no worse than Wagner's. I'd really like to hear

Ace's take on the lead for Flaming Youth, if it was actually ever recorded.

The song started as a Gene demo, Mad Dog. You can the signature musical chorus line, throughout the song.

I always wondered about the origins of the song title. Way back, I read it was a subtle gay reference. I guess you

could read that into it. But the roots of the song title go way back.

The term was coined back in the Roaring '20s. It was the title of a book.

The book was made into a silent movie of the same name (1923), about

girl who became a flapper, and became quite a wild child. It became a term for the stoners and alkies of the era.

I guess KISS latched onto the idea of ageless rebellion of youth.

And heres one I just found ... Flaming Youth was the name of a late '60s British rock band.

And they had Golum (from The Lord Of The Rings) as drummer. (top left corner)

Strangely, he looked a lot like Phil Collins, who we know from Genesis fame. (actually it is Phil Collins)

Another quality Pod Of Thunder. Good stuff!

Cool post, Lord...

I was thinking about Marlon Brando when I heard that "my uniform is leather" line again. That, of course, can't be the meaning. I mean, seriously, were KISS ever into any kind of rebellion (exept maybe on "I love it loud" and even that was more attitude than anything else).

So to me the lyrics are a lame try to sound more dangerous than they really were. The song itself, by the way, is cool anyway and remains a classic.

And if we are talking about last eposide: Did I notice a little homophobic atmosphere in the Donut Studios? I hope not...

Homophobic? No. Homoerotic? Yes.

When's the last time you heard of a homophobe gladly accepting a gift of fine chocolates from another dude he met online?

I came in late and am trying to catch up. I mostly listen as I'm shoveling snow, so I'm somewhere between 30 - 45 inches in at this point.

I've noticed neighbors looking at me quizzically as I suddenly erupt in full choke laughter mid-scoop.

Waiting patiently for Black Diamond and seriously considering downloading the Elder album. The cut you played reminded me of Rick Wakeman's Journey to the Center of the Earth LP.

Waiting patiently for Black Diamond

You and me both.

Downloading the Elder would be a bold move.

Just finished the "Rock Hard" ep - I'm sure you guys got pounded on Facebook, but Kiss has had Eric Singer do "Beth" live, just like they have Thayer do "Shock Me".

But the cow bell discussion had me howling - and immediately brought to mind Here Come The Mummies, an awesomely tight funk band, because they do almost what you guys imagined Paul doing...

And in a more funky context, about 1:22 in...

Episode 42 is now ALIVE! Andy, Chris, and Nick break down "Burn Bitch Burn" from 1984's Animalize! Then, the guys discuss Paul's rather incendiary comments in a recent Classic Rock Magazine interview about the band's upcoming Rock and Roll Hall of Fame induction. Check it:
