4 Hamers... sort of

Every time my business brings me down here to the big city (Albany... LOL) I have a favorite music store I visit. Lots of cool stuff, new and used. Some boutique brands, Fender, Gibson, PRS, Music Man, Dr. Z, Mesa Boogie. Used stuff runs the gamut from "vintage" (gimme that '68 dripedge Bassman head, please) to geeky (several Kustom tuck-and-roll amps and even a blue sparkle tuck-and-roll Earth bass head).

Anyway, browsing the guitars this evening, I was surprised by the scene below Wow! Four Hamers all in one place. Well, the fancy Sunburst (2nd from left) and the goldtop are imports, each going for about $250.

Of all of them the far laft Sunburst is the nicest, as it should be. Nice fattish neck and a very organic, woody feel. Excellent condition. Would have made a nice birthday present for myself, but fiscal reality says I have to make do with my Slammer by Hamer flattop. Not just sour grapes, I think I actually prefer the flattop to the carved, though the real deal Hamer is obviosuly a much better guitar. For six times the price, it should be.

The Eclipse was marked "sold" last time I visited, but is available again. I didn't really like it. I don't know if if was the thick finish, or its heavy weight, but it felt artificial; it didn't have that organic feel the Sunburst did.

I played them all, and if I had the cash, I'd probably grab the goldtop. I like my Sunburst better, but those P90s are appealing. Everybody should have a P90 guitar, right?

Anyway, I thought you'd like to see the picture...

"Everybody should have a P90 guitar, right?"

Absolutely! At LEAST one!

Goldtop with P-90s is a great combination.

BTW, Happy Belated Birthday.

I'm not a big Special fan, I prefer the carved top n belly cut of the Studio. But that Special of yours has captured my attention. USA I assume? P90s plus an absolutely gorgeous piece of wood. Yum. And I mean that in the most manly way possible.

That is a '94 USA. One of my favorite things about Hamer guitars has been the choice to use nice one piece bodies of Honduran Mahogany.

Thank you for the compliment.

Hey! I LOVE those Blue-Sparkle Tuck-n-Roll Kustom amps (at least the look of them, dunno how they SOUND).......

My Porsche mechanic in Charleston had a set of their blue-sparkle PA speaker cabinets for their shop sound system - the place was ROCKIN'!

Their Kustoms were all black tuck-n-roll. The blue sparkle one was actually an Earth. Earth Sound Research made loosley-based knock-offs of Peavey and Kustom amplifiers back in the mid-'70s. They actually copied the Peavey classic series fake-tweed amps, so they were knock-offs of knock-offs. How's THAT for a business model?

I fondly remember them as the big unobtainables in my local (bike-riding distance) store back when I was 14. The amps matched the seat on my Schwinn Stingray.

Save for the USA version. You wont regret it.

Hmm, let's see... kid #4 will graduate from college in 2023 (but who's counting?)

You bro'. Where you crib in upstate? I achieved sentience in Nassau, Rennesalear County.

Wait. Have we had this conversation before? The Music Store is in Colonie off Rt. 7?

I'll keep an eye out for any deals for a fellow NY'er.

Peace out!

I live WAY upstate, in Potsdam.

The store in question is in Clifton Park on route 9. I think I know the store you're talking about, too... it's pretty good.
