Purdy! 24 frets, too! Ahh, if could only have gotten along with my SS1 debacle...

SS1's are great stage guitars. I have owned 4 and still own 3. There like a classic design but with a shred mentallity if needed, Many sounds can be had from them, and they are very comfy to play.My favorite are the plain 22 fret version.

what does the other toggle do? coil tap?

Here's a good explanation (you might scroll up and / or down for context, too). ;)

ETA: from what I can tell, it's the same switching arrangement as the 1st gen Phantom, you just don't have the middle single coil in a bezel with the humbucker.

So the three-way is:

1. Neck

2. Neck + [Choice of the two-way]

3. [Choice of the two-way]

The two-way is:

1. Middle Single Coil

2. Bridge Humbucker

My experience with the Phantom was that it took a little while, but became kind of intuitive after a while. Others might find it to be superior to a five-way, but being an old Strat guy, it seemed a little complicated. Maybe I just didn't keep the Phantom long enough for it to grow on me.

ETAA: if you don't like that arrangement, the control cavity is your oyster. With holes for two switches, you've got some pretty substantial possibilities for wiring it as you like.
