Case Posted January 19, 2014 Posted January 19, 2014 [re-posting in a moment of weakness]Howdy, I'm putting feelers out for selling/trading my Yamaha Weddington Classic in beautiful Cherryburst finish. The story: I searched for one of these Weddingtons for years, resisting the (very) few that came up on eBay and the forums on account of not being able to play them first and not finding one in the condition/color I was after. Finally one turned up that met my criteria - very good + condition, Cherryburst finish and on my local Craigslist! The condition: Like I said, this guitar is in very good+ cosmetic condition. There are a few dings along the edges, one or two indentions on top, a bit o' rash on the back and oxidation on the hardware. But the top is very clean, the fretboard is beautiful and the neck/headstock are pristine. There's a beautiful subtle flame to the top that photos don't show. When I reshoot, I'll try.As for playing condition - that's where this Weddington is a cut above. It plays beautifully, all the way up and down the neck. When I got it, the first thing I had done was a full pro setup with 11s, and a full pro fret dress (level, crown, polish, etc.) It feels like a fresh-off-the-bench boutique LP. The closest thing I can compare this Weddington to as far as feel and playability is a Collings City Limits I used to have - seriously. The sound: It sounds great. I think the stock custom-wound DiMarzios are fairly hot - coaxing Appetite-era rock tones from them is spot on. However, it cleans up beautifully, and that is what has impressed me most about it - I love playing clean-to-slightly overdriven amps with this guitar. That's something I was never real fond of on most LPs. The 5 way switch for single coil tones is just icing on the cake.So why am I considering the sale? Short answer, because I'm an idiot. I have no real good reason besides there are some other amps/guitars I want to try. (Particularly, more Yamahas!) I only plan to leave this up for a short time, and if I don't get any action, it's just not the right time.Price: Traded! Sweet Newport on the way.Trades: I'm only considering trades to help folks get the cash price a little lower. So, I'd consider cool pedals, other old lower-end Yamaha or Hamer guitars, or possibly a Budda SuperDrive amp. I don't want to waste a bunch of time debating values, so please just let me know your value right away on any options. Please only contact if truly interested, yadda yadda. Pics: updated pics, finally! [/im
Case Posted January 20, 2014 Author Posted January 20, 2014 Bump. Cash price is obo. Hit me up with any trades.
Case Posted January 21, 2014 Author Posted January 21, 2014 Hey manLooks like it's an '88 according to the interwebs. Which would make it a very early one. I Think these were only made from 88-91, though I'm not certain.
Jakeboy Posted January 21, 2014 Posted January 21, 2014 Is it a neck thru? That is a badass take on an LP.....
ZR Posted January 21, 2014 Posted January 21, 2014 Everything Case said about the playability is true. I love these guitars but not enough cash to buy it (what's new?).I've only played one once. It was in a music store and a guy brought his in for some maintenance work. I saw it in the open case, immediately recognised what it was, and asked him if I could just play it really quick....amazing. It had such low action yet I couldn't make it buzz anywhere! The quality is there folks.Good luck with the sale.
Case Posted January 21, 2014 Author Posted January 21, 2014 Thank you guys for the comments. Jakeboy, it is a long-tenon neck, but not a neckthrough. The neck is a three piece, so it is super stable as well. The only thing I am not a huge fan of on this one are the pickups. A little too mean sounding for me. If I decide to keep it (again) I'll probably opt for something a little more PAF-ish. Like I said, the clean-to-mild OD sounds are fantastic, but for higher gain stuff, there's a grit to them instead of a smooth character, which I prefer. Here's a pic that shows how far the neck extends (or, I think you can see it - almost to the edge of the heel cutaway)
HAMERMAN Posted January 21, 2014 Posted January 21, 2014 Nice - I always thought that was a cool take on a LP shape and the neck joint looks way comfortable.
carfish7 Posted January 21, 2014 Posted January 21, 2014 I miss mine - GREAT guitars and really hard to find too. That neck joint makes upper-fret voyages completely free of any interference from the usual hindrances.GLWS!
crunchee Posted January 22, 2014 Posted January 22, 2014 I remember Yamaha Weddingtons from when this ad came out in 1991 (no affiliation, it's the only quick example I could find): http://www.ebay.com/itm/THE-1991-YAMAHA-WEDDINGTON-GUITAR-AD-8X11-FRAMEABLE-MAGAZINE-ADVERTISEMENT-/121247258833?pt=LH_DefaultDomain_0&hash=item1c3ae658d1 I love the part about asking 'your' local music store if the mahogany guitars they sold are made from Honduran Mahogany or African Mahogany (Weddingtons being Honduran, at least for the more deluxe versions, I think). 'They love customers like you.' That was enough back then for me to want one, and I probably woulda bought one if I could have found one. Sadly, I'm too broke at the moment for this one.
Case Posted January 24, 2014 Author Posted January 24, 2014 Thanks again for all the comments. One last bump, I suppose. Jakeboy, it has your name on it! (If I recall, you have a Special from my birth year with my name on it )
Case Posted February 4, 2014 Author Posted February 4, 2014 This beautiful, rare and truly unique take on an LP is still available. Everyone who has ever had one seems to either still have it with no intention of selling or they regret having let one go.Feel free to PM or text anytime: 785six-nine-one5589
Case Posted February 5, 2014 Author Posted February 5, 2014 Snow day bump.Ready to hear some offers - trades or otherwise.I've committed to another guitar, so would love to net a bit of cash on this one!Played this one for a long while today -- wish I could keep it in the stable, but alas... you know how it is.case
Case Posted February 6, 2014 Author Posted February 6, 2014 Anybody on the edge about this one - ask anyone that's ever played one. Seriously. That's all the convincing you'll need. I'll also throw in a SD JB pickup for the bridge - I have it installed at the moment and it sounds great as well. Case
