DarrenD Posted May 30, 2014 Posted May 30, 2014 Looks like a refinish (and a professional one) that probably had the headstock broken at one point. The floyd is aftermarket and the sustainiac is a newer version (post 2007). Whoever did the refinish put a lot of work into it, but for some reason the "usa" symbol isn't showing when they put on a new decal. Everything is setup perfectly. The floyd is also blocked - whoever modified this guitar did everything I would do for playing live. It came with a heavily beat-up original case. I must honestly say that this is the best guitar I've ever played. I wasn't expecting this, and it will probably replace my Cali elite as my #1. It's also my first 24.75 and set-neck guitar. Anybody know the exact the year of the guitar? The serial # is covered up by the refinish. Cheers,
Crimsontider Posted May 30, 2014 Posted May 30, 2014 Wow. two springs on the tremelo, bet that has some range. There is no doubt that someone put in effort to have a top notch metal guitar. The Hamer logo lets the sparkles off the hook.
Guest gearwhore Posted May 30, 2014 Posted May 30, 2014 pre 1987 if its 24.75" scale..like my 86and love the finish...sweet find
Bobby Marshall Posted May 30, 2014 Posted May 30, 2014 That may be the second coolest chaparral I have ever seen.Very nice.
cmatthes Posted May 30, 2014 Posted May 30, 2014 '85-early '87. The 3 ways v, the later blade switch...
mc2 Posted May 30, 2014 Posted May 30, 2014 Setneck Chaps are nice!Also....hard to find setneck Hamers with Sustainiacs. Cool score. The "U.S.A." Is likely missing from the logo because most repro waterslide logos tend to have the correct "HAMER" font but the "U.S.A."font is usually wrong and makes refins easy to spot. You can always add that on. Cool it has the large Stadium sized logo.
HAMERMAN Posted May 30, 2014 Posted May 30, 2014 Very cool. I wonder why they didn't add the sparkle to the back of most of the neck? How well does the sustainer work? How does it sound as a neck pickup?
DBraz Posted May 30, 2014 Posted May 30, 2014 Looks lovely. The set neck chaps sound wonderful. And I like their versatility once you've worked out all the pickup options and find the ones you love most!I love my shredders and have always thought that set neck shredders have that little bit more to them than bolt-on's or through necks. They are sweeter in the high's, not quite as throaty, but still well defined. It isn't 100%, but certainly is a high percentage of the ones I have played and owned. Through necks by contrast are a bit ice picky in my experience. Great to cut in a band mix but not as musical to my ears.Great score!
coolfeel Posted May 30, 2014 Posted May 30, 2014 that is lovely! congrats on the score! Those are some great playing and sounding guitars. Possibly the best 24.75 scale shredder from that era...
devrock Posted May 30, 2014 Posted May 30, 2014 Really odd that they would go through all of that, but not to the neck or control pocket. And, I just don't understand why people don't do SOMETHING to retain the damn serial on these guitars. Write the damn number down, reproduce it when done. Simple.Anyway, nice score!
Guest gearwhore Posted May 31, 2014 Posted May 31, 2014 that is lovely! congrats on the score! Those are some great playing and sounding guitars. Possibly the best 24.75 scale shredder from that era... yes for sure ,I can say the original run of vandy's were like twins...I sold my vandy last yr and this feel so much like I think they might be same guitar when I close my eyes....even funnier my vandy had the same floyd/kahler that I just installed on the chap..so close the two are its scary...24.75 24 fret same bridge similar head stocks
DarrenD Posted May 31, 2014 Author Posted May 31, 2014 The sustainiac works good - I had suspicions because it's 24.75 and it's suppose to be spaced out further from the bridge pickup, but it does everything well - the harmonics and everything. It sounds better than I thought as a neck pickup. I'm not sure what the middle pickup is. I agree that it's a strange redo. Whoever had it put in a great deal of work, money, and effort with the finish and custom sustainiac install....just to let it go (at a cheap price I might add). Either way, this obscurity is now mine and I'm happy with it
