Nathan of Brainfertilizer Fame Posted October 7, 2014 Posted October 7, 2014 Right. I can't miss what I've never had.
atquinn Posted October 7, 2014 Posted October 7, 2014 What's the preamp for?You can adjust eq and gain with it and engage it with the mini-toggle. Makes for a nice "solo-switch".-Austin
Nathan of Brainfertilizer Fame Posted October 8, 2014 Posted October 8, 2014 Except this one doesn't have one.
JustKid Posted October 8, 2014 Posted October 8, 2014 Ask for partial reimbursement. Beautiful guitar, just beautiful!
Boomerang~Junkie Posted October 9, 2014 Posted October 9, 2014 Nathan, I was told that the original pre-amp units are rare as hen's teeth to non-existent anymore, but was also told you can use an EMG HEQ-E circuit in its place which will provide the same functionality. If you locate one of these EMG pre amps, please see if they have a second one for me to buy.
Boomerang~Junkie Posted October 10, 2014 Posted October 10, 2014 Nathan,So I may have posted the wrong EMG EQ model number - I'm wondering if it might be the HEQ-A instead, I'm not sure now.Download this PDF on the EMG's - it may help. Its what makes me think its the A model instead. Please double check to make sure.I got this awesome tip from Kim a few years ago and I may not have gotten it right. http://www.theguitarfiles.com/emg/EMGHEQEA.pdfRead the narrative in this sale ad - he refers to the HEQ-E too? So who knows.http://www.guitar-museum.com/guitar-46551-1989-Hamer-USA-Vintage-SSorry for any confusion.
BubbaVO Posted October 10, 2014 Posted October 10, 2014 Nice score. I hope you enjoy that guitar. It's a beauty.

I didn't reach a level of understanding solid enough to support confusion.I'm not in much of a rush, so it may be a few months before I get around to looking into this.

So who knows.http://www.guitar-museum.com/guitar-46551-1989-Hamer-USA-Vintage-SSorry for any confusion.Hi Boomerang, I owned the guitar in the ad that refers to the HEQ-E. I sold it several years ago. The details about the guitar in that ad are mostly mine but whoever sold it after me changed it a little and used the pics I took. I put in an EMG HEQ-E in it because when I got it, the guitar did not have the original EQ and the EMG was what I could come up with. Before that Vintage S, I had another VS that also did not have the onboard EQ. This was around 2003. I emailed Hamer asking about the EQ and if they had any and the response I got was that "the Copeland TC-300 preamps were long gone". I did luck out and found one on Ebay which I picked up pretty cheap and offered it with the guitar in the ad. Functionally, the EMG and the Copeland are pretty much the same but they sound different to me. In reading EMG's description it sounds like the EMG HEQ preamps are for acoustic applications? Correct me if I am wrong. I do remember the EMG was much easier to install. It had less wires to solder and seemed to be a little more solid and reliable. I hope this helps. Beautiful guitar you have there Nathan! Congrats!
Ascension Posted October 16, 2014 Posted October 16, 2014 Just some SICK woods in that one!! I owned a Vintage S that looked pretty close to dead on that one for a while but had the 3 SSL-1's and the Preamp. Still kicking myself years later for letting that particular guitar go! Recorded all the guitar for this track in the studio back in the mid 90's with that old Vintage S mostly through a 50 watt through a JCM 900 Dual Master>http://soundclick.com/share.cfm?id=6302726
