chinocapuchino Posted October 13, 2014 Posted October 13, 2014 Dear Hamer friends,This is my first post here since I wanted to receive the Hamers first. I've been reading the posts for awhile and enjoying all the data available.I've always seen and liked the Hamers but ever since I tried the first Gibson LP custom I was really hooked and I didn't even want to touch anything else...I traded an SRV strat for a Gibson Explorer 76 RI NT. I also purchased a Gibson Faded White Flying V with 3 PUPS. I really love them all but these new purchased Hamers are really, really nice!!You can tell the quality is lower than the Gibsons, but for the price, it's unbeatable!!The red one is from the 90's and has a fat neck and heavy, (my back can feel it) and the XT sunburst is nice and light with a thinner neck. The only drawback is they go out of tune really easy, is there a solution for this?....http://i48.photobucket.com/albums/f212/alfistay2k3/100_2542_zps271c0fde.jpgbest regards,C
chinocapuchino Posted October 14, 2014 Author Posted October 14, 2014 Can anybody see the picture? Not sure if I posted it correctly...
Hbom Posted October 14, 2014 Posted October 14, 2014 Can't speak for the rest but, Nope I can't see your pic.Welcome to the forum.
BTMN Posted October 15, 2014 Posted October 15, 2014 Nice Threesome! Check the F/S section should feel the need for a USA upgrade!
Armitage Posted October 15, 2014 Posted October 15, 2014 ...The only drawback is they go out of tune really easy, is there a solution for this?....You probably need the nut cut to a better shape or angle. Enjoy those beasts!
chinocapuchino Posted October 15, 2014 Author Posted October 15, 2014 thank you!!Ever since I traded the Gibson, I could not stop playing it, now I'm hooked with the Hamers....I haven't tried a USA version but I would like to purchase one....Is there a big difference?I'm actually looking at one now, but it's in the 4 figure range.....It looks like it's a Standard GTSS since it has the dot inlays instead of the crown....where do the USA ones usually have the serial number?
sixesandsevens Posted October 15, 2014 Posted October 15, 2014 where do the USA ones usually have the serial number?Newer models Standards (and other newer Hamers) have it stamped into the wood on the back of the headstock (the numbers are literally pressed into the wood and can be felt with your fingers). Welcome to the HFC!(Edit: Thanks Chris!)
gorch Posted October 15, 2014 Posted October 15, 2014 thank you!!...I haven't tried a USA version but I would like to purchase one....Is there a big difference?...Totally different guitars. The non USA made typically are made from alder whereas the USA models are mahogany. That alone makes a huge difference in characteristics. I like both exactly for the difference.
cmatthes Posted October 15, 2014 Posted October 15, 2014 On Standards, they are ALWAYS stamped/impressed into the wood on the back of the headstock, not inked.where do the USA ones usually have the serial number? Newer models have it stamped into the wood on the back of the headstock (the numbers are literally pressed into the wood and can be felt with your fingers). Many of the earlier Hamers have them stamped in paint to the back of the headstock.Welcome to the HFC!
chinocapuchino Posted October 16, 2014 Author Posted October 16, 2014 very nice couple Gorch!!is the chicken head switch original?
gorch Posted October 17, 2014 Posted October 17, 2014 No. I'm glad I had found it, because it is neither black nor creme as almost all chickens available are.It rotates a 5-way switch that inextend to the regular options offers two series wiring options. The pickups are 60s strat style single coils under a humbucker hat to support the alder body construction. After a ton of humbuckers that did not make me happy, eventually, I ended up with this solution. It's in there for years now and I'm still happy. Although Gibson scale, the guitar misses the long scale snap, but sounds marvelously single coil. Great alder flavour.
