I updated my flash player (running Norton security in background) and now I can't even go on ebay

without ads popping up (have block popups on my internet setting) any advice to get rid of this? some

of the videos don't even allow you to x out of it. arrgghh.

Thanks

You need Adblock PLUS! It's a free browser add-on. Been using it months and I get no ads anywhere ever! Blocks 'em all and it's FREE! Google it ;)

I contacted the editorial department and sales department of a news site that has a bunch of video ads that randomly play. They have been getting past my pop up blocker and make it hard to watch a news video when the ad starts playing without warning. I was told that the site does not allow those types of ads, and one of the companies buying ad space was breaking the rules.

Whoever came up with the idea of pop up video ads embedded in a page ought to be caned in Singapore daily until those ads disappear across the entire Internet.

Yep, Firefox and Adblock Plus user for several years.

Consider NoScript, too, if you're really into the privacy thing, but it could be considered annoying by some.

Thanks everyone, downloaded adblock plus... got a couple things still showing, so I ran malwarebytes and it picked up a

few offending files and zapped em. interesting how it picked up some stuff that Norton didn't get. better now.

Norton sucks!

Just my opinion

+1

Avast or Kaspersky over pretty much anything else, though I might be a little out of date. Anything better that either of these two?

It sounds to me like your Adobe Flash update actually took you somewhere other than Adobe and that installed the adware. If you go to a site, then that sort of thing pops up, ignore it. Go to adobe.com and check what Flash Player you're on and download the latest only directly from them. Always go directly to the software maker for their updates, especially for Flash. You need something to get rid of the adware, not just block it. Microsoft has some malware remediation tools and also look at malwarebytes.org

Oh, and don't download stuff from Cnet or download.com, they're now known to have things that install adware.

Hope that's helpful.

Thanks, yes, that's what happened... some affiliate put something in it. malwarebytes is great, I believe that took care of it.

I also removed flash and then re-installed, and it's all good.

Additionally, I use ghostery on Safari and Firefox on the Mac. I generally set it to block everything and then whitelist sites that I actually like.
