I would have bought it just for the profit to be made (don't dig black that much), but it's just too far away from me and I wouldn't care for shipment on account of the duties/taxes ...I think cornjulio was interested in buying. Have a luthier give it a fret dress, slap in some BKP Mules and that thing will rock !Forget about the paint chips, that's rock and roll !To me the binding looks ok, but the pictures are all kinda blurry.Good luck and report back to us. Cool guitar but out of my neck of the woods to say the least..............it could be a cool guitar for someone though given your in the area and could check it all out. Switzerland is a beautiful place to live.................its also a VERY expensive place to live.................more billionaires reside there than any other place on the planet.

filtre_ Posted April 18, 2015 Posted April 18, 2015 Black is really badass for a Hamer Sunburst. I totally dig Arm of Hamer's affection for it now. I bought the black beauty despite the fact I had to pay full price (ad said that price was negotiable). Some people (I guess some are here in this forum) must have given the seller the feeling that demand for black 1979 Sunbursts in Switzerland has skyrocked over night. The strings on that guitar were a bit too old and rusty for my taste. Normally, I would not buy a guitar if it is not in a playable condition. So I first had to give it a set of new strings and a lick of fretboard polish. It will need a bit more TLC (some springs are missing from the sustain block saddles) but for the moment it plays fine and sounds great. I was unable to identify the maker of the pickups. The seller does'nt know the provenance either. Maybe someone here can help me with some clues. It is a player with plenty of dings and dongs but nothing serious. So here are some pics (with new strings of course):

It's in way better shape than I than I figured from the seller's pics. What a bargain. You have to dare to be different when you buy a "SUNBURST" thats Black ..............the ultimate "UNBURST" for sure! You got a great guitar that you can enjoy for a long time,you know the quality IS there and 1979 is the year that many here on the HFC consider to be when all the stars came together for the Hamer Sunburst.Not sure what those PUPS could be .............guitar was bought in the USA............I do not believe these to be any kind of Dimarzio PUPS[some early DiMarzio PUPS DID have those hex pole pieces] or they would be marked as such on the backs. Anyone here want to take a stab on what the PUPs might be? Congrats!
Disturber Posted April 19, 2015 Posted April 19, 2015 Congrats. I have one just like it. A little earlier serial number on mine. It is a killer guitar. Looking at the pickups I'd say they are some kind of hot superdistorion types. The baseplate does not seem to have the Dimarzio stamp on it. And the feet and baseplate screws don't look right either. My best guess is that it's a Japanese Superdistortion copy of some kind. Could be Mighty Mite too, but the feet don't look right for those either. You should look at the magnets. If they are bigger than standard alnico mags then they are most probably ceramic. And you should measure the output, that could give you a clue to if it is a Superdistortion copy. Either way, I'd rip those pickups out right away. Then I'd look for a set of old Dimarzio PAF's. But the zebras are a bitch to find. So my 2nd best advice is to get a set of normaly spaced Dimarzio 36th anniversarys for that guitar. A zebra for the neck and a creme for the bridge. Or, if you are feeling like spending a little more cash... Then I'd order a set of the humbuckers that are currently made for the new Shiskhow Standards. Creme for the bridge, and a zebra for the neck. And I'd order them unpotted. That is what came in the guitar originally. The 36th anniversarys are unfortunately wax potted. There is also the new Dimarzio Master paf. I have not heard much about how it sounds though... http://www.dimarzio.com/pickups/humbuckers/paf-master-bridge You will need to find a zebra with a black slug coil and a creme screw pole coil. That is the original look. The other way around is totally wrong. Here is a nice vid of the 36th vs. the Master.

filtre_ Posted April 19, 2015 Posted April 19, 2015 Thanks everyone for your contributions.Spend some quality time with the new addition to the Hamer herd.Awesome guitar with great sustain.PUPs are definitely high output ones, so I guess they are some kind of superdistortion.I guess the option to split them makes sense in that context as it works quite well for clean sounds.Before replacing the pups though, the remaining gear funds will go into having it freshly plek'd.The frets appear to be the original ones and are quite worn which is noticeable especially on the first 4-5 frets.
