Anyone here have a Fender Super-Sonic 22?

Got a new band project coming together and want to get a versatile tube combo amp. Found a year old Fender Super-Sonic 22 with an ATA case on Seattle Craigslist and am going to test drive it tomorrow. The online reviews and Youtube demo clips are all really positive. Looks like it has exactly the features and tones that I am seeking. Thought I would ask here and see if any of you fellas have one? Thanks

Don't have one, but I'd like to. Really loved any I've demoed.

plug it in n let 'er rip. As Rick Neilsen has been quoted; Play Loud. Have Fun.

He's also been quoted something to the effect of; I can make any equipment sound awful.

Cheers!

They sound great, I don't know how loud you want to get I played it at moderate levels and its a fantastic sounding Fender or sure. NOW the 60 Watter is pure heaven ;) LP into that thing sounded like the EC on the Beano Album.

I've got the 60-watt combo and it's a great amp!

Look no further than my sig for the Rick Nielsen quote Caddie was referring to.

I had the original iteration (two 6L6's) and I really liked it. I was actually gigging at the time (odd for me) and it was fantastic for that.

I replaced the 6L6's in mine with JJ 6V6's (the JJ's can take the high plate voltage intended for 6L6's - mine ran just a hair over 500V). That reduced the volume just a bit while allowing for earlier breakup in the clean channel. I eventually sold it when I bought and fell in love with Carfish's Mesa Subway Blues (dropping about twenty pounds of load-in in the process).

The 22 is the amp I wish my original was. I think the only thing the 22 gives up are level controls on the effects loop and two separate modes on the clean channel (I rarely used the Vibrolux voicing, preferring the Bassman voicing, so I don't think that's a big deal). I have played the 22, but it was right when it first came out - I do recall liking it very much.

My thoughts may be a bit biased, however, as I grew up on Fender amps. The SS I had sounded (beautifully) very Fender.

Thanks for the input guys. I bought this amp yesterday and it's killer. It does have two settings on the clean channel. And a really nice ATA case with casters.

Kind of a funny/sad deal. I bought it from a woman who was very nervous about meeting a guy off of craiglist. So we met at a tavern that she frequents where I could test drive the amp. I started asking her questions about why she had it, why she was selling it, where she got it etc.... Turns out she bought it new at Ted Brown's music in Tacoma last summer for her boyfriend who is a blues guitarist. She paid $1400 with the case (sounds like full retail)

They are both bikers (as in Harley) and her "old man" is going away to prison for evidently a looooong time. So she's selling off all his gear. The guitars are already gone, but I did get her to throw in a canvas messenger bag full of cables and pedals including a Boss Delay, Boss Chorus and a ProCo Rat. There's also some hand wired gadget that's in an Altoid box that I haven't played around with yet.

Anyway, the amp is killer and looks brand f-ing new (thanks to the case). I got it for $750.

Really good deal, you scored! I’ve certainly had my fair share of getting wired from gadgets in Altoid boxes, so enjoy!
