BubbaVO Posted May 6, 2016 Posted May 6, 2016 DId you like the results? I've been reading that it makes for a nice blues/classic rock pup. True?
Jeff R Posted May 6, 2016 Posted May 6, 2016 Somewhat related ... my MIK neck-thru BC Rich Mockingbird came with the Duncan Designed ceramic magnet Duncan Distortion clones, which were actually nice for hard rock but best described as a vanilla harsh for anything else. I swapped their magnets for an A2 in the neck and an A5 in the bridge and was COMPLETELY pleased with the results, particularly with the A2 neck swap. Considering the magnets are cheap and easy to get and it's an unobtrusive and reversible mod if you don't like it, it can't hurt to try it out.
Bobby Marshall Posted May 6, 2016 Posted May 6, 2016 I have an A2 in my Murkat Special from WCR. I love it's sound.

zenmindbeginner Posted May 11, 2016 Posted May 11, 2016 An A2 into a JB lowers the output a good amount. Bumps the nasal mid hump downwards into the regular midrange instead of the upper midrange. Changes the JB into a fully functioning rock and roll pickup that doesn't tip it's hat to '80s metal anymore. Single notes are thickened and you get a honk that's usually associated with pickups like the Seth Lover or Pearly Gates set. Gone is the singling violin-tone though... gone is the sear and the sizzle and the midrange is more solid instead of fluid and buttery. I have it paired with a Seth Lover in the neck and it blends sooooooo well, it's crazy. You can switch pickups back and forth and sometimes forget which pickup you are using until you notice the switch position mid-song. lolz Since it's A2... the bottom octave is sort of missing compared to A5. Deep chugs don't have that low end that A5 imparts and the 100hz region is scooped a bit. But.... on the positive side, you get the 200-800hz area filled in and that area is hollow as fugg in a JB. I personally LOVE a JB2 as I'd trade the bottom octave for midrange any day of the week. The JB2 isn't quite as noisy compared to a stock JB... less hash and it picks up less EMI-RFI interference too.
JGravelin Posted May 11, 2016 Posted May 11, 2016 I'm going to mess around with this one and see what sticks.
