Hamerhack Posted August 26, 2016 Posted August 26, 2016 Artist Custom barrel jack. Original is a Switchcraft. Threaded part about 1 1/2". Is there a Switchcraft part number or is that how it's described? Assume the Switchcraft is the Hamer of barrel jacks? Where do you get them? Thanks!
Rich_S Posted August 26, 2016 Posted August 26, 2016 Markertek, the pro-level audio/video production equipment supplier, carries the Switchcraft version. I got one from them. Got a free T-shirt, too. Somewhat surprisingly, Stew-Mac only carries a cheap import barrel jack, even though they have other Switchcraft hardware.
Teh Posted August 26, 2016 Posted August 26, 2016 Newark carries a variety of Switchcraft parts. http://www.newark.com/webapp/wcs/stores/servlet/Search?pageSize=25&st=switchcraft&catalogId=15003&categoryId=800000006581&langId=-1&storeId=10194
Rich_S Posted August 26, 2016 Posted August 26, 2016 That's a lot to wade through, but Newark's stock number 39F651 seems to be the desired piece.

Hey, how come you got a free t-shirt. I only got a free multi compartment tool/tablet bag and a USB car charger dang it. With Shure/Markertek emblazoned on them. atomicwash Posted August 26, 2016 Posted August 26, 2016 Hey, I needed a barrel jack! Thanks for the link!

This thread reminds me, I'm probably going to need one of these puppies soon, for my recently-acquired Slammer Series Sunburst.
triodecr Posted August 26, 2016 Posted August 26, 2016 Amazon has them too: https://www.amazon.com/Switchcraft-151-4-Inch-Washer-Nickel/dp/B00C5B26HC/ref=pd_bxgy_267_2?ie=UTF8&psc=1&refRID=0K4AGKZ4TXHEXVBJVA23

I'm lucky, everything from Markertek gets here overnight with ground shipping. I'm only a few hours away from them.
Navigator Posted August 27, 2016 Posted August 27, 2016 How do people like the quality of the current Switchcraft barrel jack? I had problems with the stock one on my Studio Custom a few years ago, which was really fussy about what cables I fed it, and would sometimes cut out. Kim Keller sent me a replacement (Switchcraft), and it was actually worse, so I put the original back in and made do. I've been using Planet Waves cables since then, and the Hamers seem to like those plugs better.
HSB0531 Posted August 27, 2016 Posted August 27, 2016 There are Chinese made Switchcraft plugs & jacks. There's legit ones and knockoffs. For example: Switchcraft A3F: female 3 pin XLR - the good stuff. Switchcraft AA3F female 3 pin XLR - the bad stuff Both from Switchcraft, but the AA3F is made in China.
Stike Posted August 31, 2016 Posted August 31, 2016 Not helpful at all but I hate those those fucking jacks.
Rich_S Posted August 31, 2016 Posted August 31, 2016 The Electrosocket jack cup for Telecasters is the best setup. Too bad the hole for the Switchcraft barrel is too small. The barrel jack is pretty in a unobtrusive way, but a plain old LP-style metal jack plate and a regular Switchcraft 1/4" jack is simpler in the long run.
MOvalve Posted September 1, 2016 Posted September 1, 2016 I put one of these in my Monaco Elite recently and it's been great so far. It's made for a trs stereo plug. I used both the ring and sleeve connection for ground, it's a bit more stable as there's 3 contact points rather than two. https://www.tubesandmore.com/products/jack-switchcraft-14-stereo-3-conductor-thick-end-pin

And I thought they were all the same. Cross fingers all mine are the better ones

This is good info I didn't know. Thanks!
HSB0531 Posted September 2, 2016 Posted September 2, 2016 Also: A Switchcraft 151 deep chassis jack is .253" diameter and the correct length for a Switchcraft 280 plug It's 0.003" wider so the plug won't jam inside it. Switchcraft plugs are a true 1/4" (0.250") diameter plug and are 1.1875" long. If you're using a Switchcraft plug in a Chinese jack it could jam in the jack because the Chinese deep chassis jacks are usually undersized (metric). The reverse can be true with a Chinese jack in a Switchcraft 151 deep chassis jack - loose and intermittent..
it's me HHB Posted September 2, 2016 Posted September 2, 2016 I just jack plated my semi hollow warmouth tele. Screw those barrel jacks
