1978 Fender Telecaster Custom FS

Was going through guitar cases last night and stumbled on this one.  Probably a guitar I've owned the longest, this was my main guitar for many years. I simply have too many Telecasters, not a bad affliction by any means...

This one IS the Keith Richards guitar (well, not actually HIS, but the same color and model).  All original except that a blade humbucker was installed in the bridge when I was gigging playing loud high-gain stuff.

The original single coil bridge pickup IS included in the sale.  I switched this out long before I knew of things like a Decimator noise gate pedal or I never would've changed it.

The guitar is the classic black/maple and has a few of the dings and things from a guitar that was played, but none of the typical finish wear-throughs that these so often have.  Bridge plate has some relicing, but I picked up an original bridge years ago that will come with the guitar (new bridge is missing one saddle, but is almost new). NO cracks or drilled holes, etc in the pickguard either.  The original neck humbucker sounds great!

With original rare maroon-lined 70s hardshell case with leather ends in very nice shape.

Drop to $2200

That takes me back to Sep 25, 1981 when Keith hit the stage playing Under My Thumb at JFK Stadium in Philly. I would so love to rock that guitar, Steve.

Considering the asking (and even selling) prices for these, this one's cheap!

Cool guitar. I believe Keith Richards played a '75, which has a different bridge and control knobs than the '78s.

No, Keith Richards is 72 and is a knob.

Correct. The control knobs were the same from 72-77, then strat after that.  I don't recall if the 6-saddle bridge was on the 72s or came later.

Edited to add, 3-saddles until 75/76?

My '73 has 3 saddle bridge and witch hat knobs. Nice looking guitar. Much cleaner than mine. Skinny neck?

GLWLS

Not skinny at all.  Very nice.

Nice Steve! I've a similar one, but I believe two HBs (Deluxe?). It's pretty minty but has this aligatoring of the black paint along the perimeter. I think this happened to some Anniversary Strats too?

The Deluxes are VERY cool.  The paint on the pearl white Anniversary Strats was a big problem. They only did 100 or so before switching to that Porsche silver for the rest of the run.  A Tele Deluxe is on my very short list of guitars I haven't had that I've always dug.

Bump for Keef's birthday.  Make me an offer if interested-need to clear out two more spaces in the guitar room...
