Lockbody Posted January 1, 2017 Posted January 1, 2017 Last year I decided to sell one of my Fenders to get a new amp. After much deliberation I decided to sell my AVRI Jazzmaster and keep my Jeff Beck Strat. At the time it was my last Fender as I was playing my short-scale guitars more and frankly, the JB Strat with the Clapton mid-boost is as versatile of a guitar as you can get, so I thought I should keep it. But I miss my Jazzmaster, and now I have a chance to get it back. So here goes. It's a 2012 Jeff Beck Strat that I've installed a Clapton mid-boost kit in. I love the Clapton Strat, but I'm not a fan of the V necks. The Jeff Beck, however, has one of, if not the best IMO, necks Fender makes. There's several people on the HFC with JB Strats and I bet they agree. Larger and fuller than Fender's Modern-C, but not a baseball bat. Super comfy. In fact, I'd go so far as to say I think the JB Strat is the best production Strat you can buy, period. The Hot Noiseless pickups rock and are among the best sounding noiseless pickups available, it's got the Deluxe's contoured neck heel, and the two-post vibrato with LSR nut and staggered, locking tuners (no string trees) makes for a guitar with a silky smooth trem feel that you can't knock out of tune. Stock, as I mentioned already, I think it's the best production Strat you can buy, but I wanted one guitar that I could play anything from the Surf to Metal with, so I added the Clapton kit. If you're not aware, the kit adds up to a 20db mid-boost and has the TBX tone control that allows you to either cut the high-end like a traditional tone control, or cut the low-end out. TONS of tones available from thin and sparkly to thick, humbucker-ish. It's truly a do all guitar and I'm stupid for selling it. Condition - Excellent. No real dings, marks, or scuffs. Light pick marks in the pickguard and a light scuff at the very very end of the headstock are about it. Tweed, OHSC in excellent condition. All case candy included. It has been opened, though, as I had to rob the cable when I ran out during a recording session and just had to have one more cable! The picture of the backside of the guitar shows the trem cavity cover off, but it's included as that's where the battery is for the Clapton kit. There was no additional routing or drilling done for the kit and the stock V/T/T pots are included. The pics also show Dunlop straplocks, but the stock Fender/Schallers will be included. Sold! *edit - I'm not afraid of offers, but note these Strats hold their value exceptionally well for a reason.
Lockbody Posted January 4, 2017 Author Posted January 4, 2017 I can also take out the Clapton electronics and return it to stock for $1250 Sh/PP CONUS, but you should really try it with it all installed.
tildeslash Posted January 5, 2017 Posted January 5, 2017 I have a JB Strat that I also installed the Clapton-Mid Boost kit. I concur, it has nearly all the tones you ever want.
Kalessin Posted January 6, 2017 Posted January 6, 2017 There's a great Anderton's modding clip in which a Clapton mid boost and some noiseless pickups get installed in just about the cheapest possible Squier strat... (~50m). The sound is pretty impressive.
SSII x 2 Posted January 6, 2017 Posted January 6, 2017 Man, I'm playing my Beck Strat all the time these days. Totally agree with ya re the C neck profile. Great guitar! GLWtS!
Lockbody Posted January 6, 2017 Author Posted January 6, 2017 Someone emailed me from my CL add asking for some close ups (he said I shouldn't worry, he was from North Alabama and buys and sells musical equipment all the time), so I'd thought I'd post them here, too. Enjoy
SSII x 2 Posted January 13, 2017 Posted January 13, 2017 Man, that's a beauty! Can't believe you'd want to sell it...

It doesn't look like anyone wants to buy it. If I wasn't still paying on our new truck and wasn't starting payments on a new roof for Casa de Lockbody this month, then I'd just throw the Jazzmaster on a credit card and be done with it, but alas... The Jazzmaster is no ugly duckling, either.

He didn't bother to put his name on any of the three emails he sent, so I don't have high hopes. Even if he was real, I figure since he "buys and sells musical equipment all the time" all he would try and do was low ball me on the price.

I think I'm the only sucker in world who didn't get their insurance to pay for one. One roofing company promised they would get Liberty Mutual to pay for it. 100% sure. Our agent came out and said "Yep, you need a new roof alright, but we're not paying for it."
