TimeIsAllItTakes Posted April 24, 2017 Posted April 24, 2017 I work at a music store and have worked on a number of Hamers, but I haven't seen this before. It looks like a Californian. It's bolt-on with an ebony fret board, 27 frets, and obviously 3 pickups. Can anyone tell me more about it? Thanks!
Victor (Fret Friend) Posted April 24, 2017 Posted April 24, 2017 It's some kind of import hybrid by the looks of it. I had a 2002 California Deluxe (made in Korea) and it was very similar apart from mine didn't have a middle pick-up)...
TimeIsAllItTakes Posted April 24, 2017 Author Posted April 24, 2017 Thx! It has "CHINA" written on the heel, but a stamped, 6-digit serial number on the back of the headstock. I've worked on American Californians before and several Korean models. It doesn't look like an import, but I may not have seen enough of them to know better. Did they have a factory in China?
veatch Posted April 24, 2017 Posted April 24, 2017 Looks 'Murican to me, but I'm looking on a cell phone. The inlays are not of the "import kind". My guess is a custom order Cali.
bruce919 Posted April 24, 2017 Posted April 24, 2017 Looks to be a Cali-Chaparral-Centaura hybrid . I have seen a few Chaps with the angled single coils. Very cool guitar for sure.

veatch Posted April 24, 2017 Posted April 24, 2017 Stadium logo. Paint looks right. Bevels look right. Angled neck pocket looks right. I'm sticking with my answer. ETA - 3 piece neck looks right, unless my eyes are playing tricks...

cmatthes Posted April 24, 2017 Posted April 24, 2017 It's NOT an import - that's a 100% USA custom piece. The China Club was a rock club in Chicago during the era that guitar was made - maybe that one's listed in the factory logs, as it is definitely a custom order. Possibly an auction piece or house guitar or something? You wouldn't happen to have the serial number handy, would you?
cmatthes Posted April 24, 2017 Posted April 24, 2017 Okay - an update... A good friend of Jol's ran the China Club, and Hamer supplied instruments that they would use as house instruments to have on hand for their jam nights, and when guests wanted to share the stage/sit in with a performing band. This was one of those. Hope that helps!

Nice!.. that's exactly why I love Hamer guitars, due to all the different models, Custom Shop rarities & limited production runs, there's such a cool story around every twist and turn~
