Saw Saxon Last Night

Saxon played Atlanta last night.  I hit front row and had a good time.  It was 80s metal played by people who were there, but not trying to relive the 80s.

The opening act was Gunpowder Gray.  They looked and sounded like a hard rock/pre metal band right out of 1980.  I liked them.

Saxon came out on stage.  If you are a Saxon fan it was a great show.  If you are not a Saxon fan, up yours!

Both Paul Quinn and Doug Scarratt had Kempers.  Both had a single Marshall cabinet surrounded by a wall of DV Mark cabinets.  Nibbs Carter had Markbass cabinets on both sides of the stage.  I saw Kemper floor modules, and there were no amp heads on stage.

Quinn played Caparison guitars.  Scarratt played Charvel Strats.  Carter played and LTD bass with a matte black finish with red binding.

Nigel Glockler played Duallist drums with Gibraltar hardware.

Biff has all his hair.  Three of the others have full heads of hair.  Quinn wears a do-rag on purpose.  Four out of five members of Saxon could go back to being a hair band if they want to.

I'm too tired right now to type anything meaningful.

Sounds like they rocked it.  They do their thing and do it well.  Are they endorsing those brands now?  I saw something a while back where they were using ESP I think.

Thanks for saying ESP.  I edited the original post about Nibbs Carter's bass.

It's been a good 15 years since I last saw them, but they flat out killed!  I got to go on the bus and they were all great guys as well.

I wasn’t aware they were coming through, I’d love to have seen them. I have most of the albums they have put out, great band.

I’m just sorry I didn’t see them back in the day when they had Geezer Butler and Tom Hanks on guitar. And, I could be mistaken, but I believe that was Cheech Marin on bass:
