rugby1970 Posted March 23, 2020 Posted March 23, 2020 Can anyone help me out with this? I know it's not the most common or practical but there are reasons why.
hamerhead Posted March 23, 2020 Posted March 23, 2020 Check here: https://guitarelectronics.com/guitar-wiring-resources/
scottcald Posted March 23, 2020 Posted March 23, 2020 Yeah, guitar electronics is good. DiMarzio has some good diagrams as well: https://www.dimarzio.com/support/wiring-diagrams So do Duncan: https://www.seymourduncan.com/wiring-diagrams
Jakeboy Posted March 23, 2020 Posted March 23, 2020 Basic Strat wiring should work with the bucker replacing a single, right?
rugby1970 Posted March 24, 2020 Author Posted March 24, 2020 This is my first attempt so I really need a "for Dummies" approach.
scottcald Posted March 24, 2020 Posted March 24, 2020 If you don't need/want to split the coil, just wire as a normal Strat would. Also, I've looked at this guys stuff on YouTube: https://www.youtube.com/user/BrejaToneWorks/videos
velorush Posted March 25, 2020 Posted March 25, 2020 And it's easy enough to wire the Humbucker to split in the "4" position, only, negating the need for any superfluous switching busyness. To quote some of the best guitar advice I've ever received, "make it a rocket ship, not mission control." - @Murkat
rugby1970 Posted March 25, 2020 Author Posted March 25, 2020 I'm using the Seymour Duncan diagram, it has colors, ha! We'll see. Thanks for all of the great advice, fellas.

No matter how many I've done, I'm always pleased as punch when I plug in a cable and go through the switch settings, using an alligator clip or something similar to tap against the pickups, and hearing that tap-tap-tap through the amp confirming everything works as intended.
rugby1970 Posted March 25, 2020 Author Posted March 25, 2020 Well.......................... I wired it up ................................ and it works, sort of. I get noise, musical stuff, but the volume pot doesn't shut off all the way and the tone tone controls don't do too much. The humbucker is the best setting. This is the diagram I followed.
rugby1970 Posted March 25, 2020 Author Posted March 25, 2020 Wait, what happens to that lug on the volume pot? Does it get bent up to the pot and soldered on the pot too?
Jakeboy Posted March 26, 2020 Posted March 26, 2020 Yay! Good work. Way to stick with it and troubleshoot the malfunction.
velorush Posted March 27, 2020 Posted March 27, 2020 If you're open to having a single master tone, give this a look: it automatically splits the humbucker in the 4 position for more Strat-like tones. With a master tone, you only need one side of the standard five-way, freeing it up for automatically shunting one of the humbucker coils to ground. The second tone knob becomes reassigned to "talent." (according to Jon Herington)
PaGator Posted March 27, 2020 Posted March 27, 2020 SD diagrams are good. Remember not all pickup manufacturers use the same wire color codes
