Bennyboy-UK Posted April 14, 2022 Author Posted April 14, 2022 I’ve been around these guitars for a little while but I’ve not heard of a Terry McInturff era before - is that an actual thing - or just that he was at Hamer when this guitar was made? Did Terry McInturff make this actual guitar for example?
groovetuber Posted April 14, 2022 Posted April 14, 2022 I’m not exactly sure when he left Hamer, it was sometime in the mid 90s, my buddy is gonna try and reach out to him. He said Terry saw it at his booth at a guitar show and said he most likely made it. At this point I can’t say for sure.

That's almost identical to the one I showed near the top of the thread. When I had it down at the local guitar store for a tweak the techs were calling other staff in to check out the birdseye neck and full flame maple body. And the sound is magic, especially with the onboard preamp and EQ (on the switch near the pickups).

I agree, it’s not a selling point to me who made it at Hamer - the quality of the output is always way up there - Pizza Friday oddballs excepted. Funnily enough all the Vintage Ss I’ve played and seen over the years have been first class on every way. Very occasionally you see one which looks a bit ordinary regarding figuring, but that’s the exception and obviously in isolation even those one look pretty cool.

veatch Posted April 15, 2022 Posted April 15, 2022 20 years from now, let's see if the phrase "Veatch-era HFC" is used. Actually, that would be pretty sad.
groovetuber Posted April 15, 2022 Posted April 15, 2022 Just relaying what I’ve been told. Terry McInturff is a well respected builder and I was told this guitar was made at the time he was there. Not a big deal. The quality of the guitar is what matters no matter who built it, I agree.
veatch Posted April 15, 2022 Posted April 15, 2022 Terry makes great guitars, and is good people. Hamer had a lot of great craftsmen. The consistent quality of the instruments they made are a clear sign of that.

Yep. Terry's local to me. Both a great builder and a genuinely nice guy. During the time he worked at Hamer, the company was at its largest in terms of scale and production numbers. He definitely had a hand in designing and building guitars (IIRC, he did primarily C.O.s and few builds for artists/endorsers), but then a LOT of employees were involved in building production Hamers at that time. And they were certainly damn good at it!
