Looking for a Hamer USA 12-string: Eclipse 12, Newport 12, or Duotone 12, please

Hi everybody,

Please let me know if you happen to have a Hamer USA 12-string:  Eclipse 12, Newport 12, or Duotone 12 that you would like to sell to a good home in Canada.  I will make it worth your while for the right instrument.

I love USPS, but I have had bad experiences with both FedEx and UPS (insane border crossing fees).

I have been dreaming of one of these instruments for a long time.  Please PM me if you can help me out.

Thanks,

Andris (HamerCustomEr)

A noble quest. Any of the three are worth snagging. I am going to guess the Eclipse will be the easiest to find. Unfortunately, mine left these parts a long time ago. I will confess I still do have one of each of the others but, at the risk of sounding like I am playing the tease, I have been unable to bring myself to letting either go, despite multiple dibs requests.

But clearly this is the place to come to find someone who has less of a death grip on these scarce instruments. Good luck!

I won't ship mine right now. Too damn many horror stories. But if you are coming to Anchorage, we can talk.

Until then there's this;

I feel that.  I sold a carbon fiber race bike recently and UPS mangled it (laid the box flat and promptly dropped something really heavy on it).   It was insured and they will pay to repair it.  But it’s a huge pain in the ass and now I’m left with a bike with limited potential for sale.  I’d be a lot more willing to buy a guitar with a well-done headstock repair than a repaired bike for the simple reason that a frame failure (internal stress cracks that grow over time for example) could kill a rider at speed.

TL;DR:  Local sales will always be my preference too.

Oh, jeepers. I feel your pain: I have two carbon bikes and live with the nervousness about an unseen crack because they're so darned light and stiff.

I had a 12-string Duotone 3-holer that was magnificent but I coudn't find much use for it.  FWIW here is something local to me.  Not Hamer but sexy, and the price is good.

At this point in my life, if I am ready to buy something online, and UPS is the only option, I will look elsewhere.  I have had good experiences with DHL shipping from Japan or Europe.  I will go with FedEx only if I am truly desperate.  I have a few bad stories about USPS, but so far, they have been very good to me.  (Knock on guitar wood.)

I have a nice Taylor inbound from CA and I’m trying to not imagine what FedEx is doing to it this weekend.   Insured for full replacement value, regardless.   I didn’t want it shipped but I won’t be out in CA again until Feb at the earliest.   Decided to roll the dice.

I’ve bought gear before and had the seller hang onto it if I will be out in the general vicinity for work (I travel a lot).    Funny story.   I was coming out of Denver one time with a vintage Spector in tow.  I had a long argument with the gate agent about the second ticket I bought for it.   That the flight was oversold was not my problem.   And sure enough, no matter how much she tried to bribe me with flight vouchers, there was no way that it was going in the cargo hold.     Somewhere I have a picture of my bass strapped safely into a window seat.

That is an awesome story!  We would love to see the picture if you can find it!!  I remember having an unpleasant interaction with a flight attendant, after I had already boarded a plane, about being allowed to put my acoustic guitar in the overhead compartment, and I have never flown with an instrument in the cabin since.  I bought flight cases after that incident so I would not have to worry.

I could not believe it when my friend checked a hollowbody Ibanez George Benson in a Mono bag (yes, it was a Mono, but it is still just a bag).  Somehow, the guitar survived intact.  It is not worth the risk!

Flying is not like the good old days......Once upon a time there always seemed to be plenty of extra seats. I would sometimes buy a couple full size guitars, sometimes even archtops (in hardshell cases), carry them onboard and stash in the overhead for the flight home......Without paying a cent extra. Not so today.

I pulled the trigger on a Phantom 12 in very good condition with OHSC.  The seller said that the nut width was "... just a hair below 1-3/4"".  (I hope that the hair in question is very thin.).  This masterpiece is currently on its way to me in Canada via USPS from South Carolina.
