Something strange on a 4x12, thoughts?

I picked up an empty slant crate blue Voodoo 4x12, it has this tab on one of the speaker holes; looking at others online most of them seem to have this, not all but most.. is this some sort of production run defect that they just sent out anyway? Will it make any difference to the tone of that speaker? Should I grind it out and make a circle or leave as is?

thoughts much appreciated..

I'm just guessing, but I'd suspect it's the anchoring base for some kind of model or logo plate.  I doubt very much if it would have any effect on the speaker output or tone or projection, unless the 'tab' isn't anchored well and it rattles during use.  Or you're Eric Johnson.

On several of the pictures I saw of other ones there was some sort of logo plate down there, so I think you're right.. irritating though as I'm not a perfectionist but definitely tending that way, and new speakers are expensive! I want to hear all of that one

I have seen many that have nothing there, and some that have a "Celestion" little plate there. I doubt it will have any effect on the sound.

I’m with Tbone, it’s where a “Celestion Loaded” logo plate used to live.  My old B’leu D’eau D’eau cab didn’t have Celestions.

My crate TV112V has those on the corners. Like stated above, I think they're intended as mount points for logos etc. Mine had the Crate logo on one (I removed it for better tone) and Celestion on another one. Some of the Crate cabs are not terrible, the TV series came with V30s much of the time, was that during the time that the same company (the name is escaping me at the moment) owned both Ampeg and Crate?
