pickboy007 Posted September 17, 2006 Posted September 17, 2006 I was toyin with the idea of selling or trading my 4 digit sunburst standard for a les paul. Is the market still pretty good? What's it worth now?
Disturber Posted September 17, 2006 Posted September 17, 2006 Welcome to the board. 1st post? And right to the point...Post a pic of the guitar and the serial number.Someone here will be able to help you withyour questions. Don't trade a 4 digit for a Les Paulunless it's a damn rare Gibby. You'll be sorry later on.
BTMN Posted September 17, 2006 Posted September 17, 2006 Welcome. I have to second that info. Photos help but I have a feeling you'll be getting your Les Paul and a few dollars to spare. Give ya $350 for it. Seriosly, prices range as with anything. Seems like an average as posted on here of sold Standards is $1800-$4000. Depending on serial number, condition, the usual stuff. I'd keep it unless you really want to let it go. BTW, is pickboy007 your id elsewhere? It seems familiar. Good luck in your quest.
pickboy007 Posted September 17, 2006 Author Posted September 17, 2006 Thx guys yeah about 2 years ago I posted under a different name stageboy I think. I couldnt remember my password from 2 years ago so I created a similar name. Its number is 0734. according to the chart, it was made in 84-85? Ive owned it since I was 16, but I rarely play it. I really dont like free floating khalers. The shit at the time. It looks identical in finish to the one on the hfc standard descriptions page. Mine also has RN's Signature on it for shits and giggles. Ill post pics if I can get the damn camera to co-operate.
pickboy007 Posted September 17, 2006 Author Posted September 17, 2006 Okay not much of a camera guy hope this works.
Disturber Posted September 18, 2006 Posted September 18, 2006 Okay not much of a camera guy hope this works. Cool. Nice red burst. Did it come with a Kahler mounted from the Hamer factory? Or isit an after job?
El Kabong Posted September 18, 2006 Posted September 18, 2006 The Kahler can be converted to a flat mounted version if you want to keep the guitar.
pickboy007 Posted September 18, 2006 Author Posted September 18, 2006 as far as I know it's bone stock the flat mount is entriguing can u elaborate never heard of it.
serial Posted September 18, 2006 Posted September 18, 2006 That IS a flat mounted Kahler-the Pro. That's the only one that Hamer used that I've seen.
BCR Greg Posted September 18, 2006 Posted September 18, 2006 The collective groan of the HFC as that Kahler came into view was a big one.Still a great guitar, and those can be converted....
cmatthes Posted September 18, 2006 Posted September 18, 2006 If there's finish in the route/cavity for the Kahler, it's original. That's the easiest way to tell.Wow - that's a LATE 4-digit!! I have an all-mahogany 4-digit Standard that's right around yours timewise. To answer your question, you would probably get more for your Standard than any stock Les Paul. If the Kahler is original, you'd be in the really nice R8, or R9 range perhaps.Very cool.
pickboy007 Posted September 19, 2006 Author Posted September 19, 2006 okay..... can someone enlighten the newbie what is r8 r9
cmatthes Posted September 19, 2006 Posted September 19, 2006 R9 is one of the 1959 Les Paul Reissue; R8 is the slightly less expensive 1958 Reissue. Basically, don't settle for any old production LP in trade for this one!
rmahurin Posted September 19, 2006 Posted September 19, 2006 Kahlered or not, 4 Digits are the coolest.
riffpowers Posted September 19, 2006 Posted September 19, 2006 THis is the one I see from time to time. Its had a neck break, but even though I can't afford it, if it came up for the right price I;d get it I think. Any idea how much a 78 sunburst with a break is worth in the UK??
pickboy007 Posted September 27, 2006 Author Posted September 27, 2006 OKAY AFTER EMAILING THE HAMER FACTORY AND TAKING OFF MY BRIDGE, AAARRRRGGGGG THE VERDICT IS IN THERE WAS FINISH IN THE CAVITY!! ITS FACTORY YIPPEEE. I RESTRUNG IT AND YOU KNOW, ITS KINDA COOL. I PLAYED IT THRU MY NEWLY AQUIRED BHERINGER V-AMP WHICH INCIDENTLY KICKS A POD'S ASS AS FAR AS IM CONCERNED. I MIGHT BE TRADING MY IBANEZ S-370 TOMORROW FOR AN EPIPHONE LES PAUL TO TEMPORARILY TAME THIS HUNGER FOR A REAL PAUL.
