  1. thanx guys. i will probably try a phatcat in my artists neck slot. love the phatcats in my duotone (and the newport i had). love the seth in the bridge slot of my artist.
  2. besides cosmetics, whats the difference between artists & studios?
  3. no kiddin? i was thinking of putting a phatcat in the neck slot of my artist. what kinda top is your studio?
  4. i saw mike w/ alice cooper ~81 (jr high). he did this cool solo using a straight razor's dull side for VH-esque tapping. then, he flipped it over and hacked up his strings and chunks of his guitar. metal!
  5. in 2nd grade i started listening to KISS because they looked like comic book heros. did the "tennis racquet in the mirror w/ headphones" thang. during 5th - 6th grade i got a guitar & more music, i was all about ACE, PAGE, JIMI, & IOMMI. these are my primary influences. jr high & high school was all metal, faves were RUSH, MAIDEN, & 80'S METALLICA. in jr college i branched into listening to a little fusion & shred, esp BECK & SATCH. a big turning point in jr college was discovering JAMES BROWN, the 1st non rock guitar music that i loved. i listened to a lot of music & guitarists thru college, studied jazz & theory, but it wasn't until the mid 90's that my playing was again influenced, this time by the NEO JAZZ of the 90's albums by JOHN SCOFIELD, CHARLIE HUNTER, & WILL BERNARD. edit: i just re-read the initial post... my post is more about my influences, so i guess i missed the point. there are lots of guys who "blew my mind", i won't list 'em, but i've always been more into the general vibe or groove of music ( i do enjoy watching an amazing player up close, but i prefer to listen to tunes).
  6. my trombonist buddy is learning bass, he buys a lot of berringer stuff (bass amp, studio bus mixer, etc). he bought one of their bass preamp pedals, i thought "ewww". but, i plugged it in and set it to a tubey growl (ala geezer's tone on sabs 1st album), not too bad for the $$. YMMV, but i actually played w/ it for 15-20 minutes, so i'm not just poo poo-ing it internet-gear-geek-style w/o having ever tried it.
  7. yep, the 80's were a blast.
  8. >brooks... how come u don't buy any of my guitars for sale.. rob, get a tape measure and confirm that its 24.75" scale length, if so AND its got a really thin neck i'll make an offer. pm me monday.
  9. thats gregs sister 2nd from right. heres another blast from the past...
  10. rob, whats the scale length? thin neck?
  11. dave & brooks acoustic duo, stumble stilskins, downtown greensboro nc, friday january 6, 2006.
  12. from what i read on metalsludge.com, there was 2 versions of ratt touring AT THE SAME TIME; pearcy's, and one w/ warren dimartini & the original drummer. i saw that 3 man lineup of night ranger way back around 93 or 94? they were great, richard simmons even handed me a aluminum pick!
  13. Shit that's not so bad comapared to to his SNL appearance with the then Puff Daddy. Jack White is Les Paul compared to fucking P Diddy. true dat, i was horrified to see JP onstage w/ that no talent cheese ass.
  14. thats cool, but DD is about 19 or 20 there, not 16 (this is when i 1st started seeing pantera in clubs around dallas). and i have no sound on that clip on my end.
  15. sunburst slammer series import, made me sell my LP studio. 1st usa hamer was a 25th annv.
  16. wow greg, you guys have been practicing!
  17. like so many bands, i like what they're *trying* to do, i just don't like the vocals (see the "current state of metal" thread).
  18. yes, thanx steve for the hot sauce and, errr, everything else . thanx to stike for some free work on a few of my guitars. thanx to HHB and BBD for recording my tune w/ me a few years back (when i was band-less). oh, how could i forget, thanx to mc chris for the porn!!
  19. yep. spruce + phatcats = shiznit. ps- jack, good 'un, SATF, hahaa
  20. jay toland?
  21. some of the tunes on the new cd have a robert plant vibe to the vocals. i think he's got talent as a singer and writer, he just needs a rhythm section & lead guitarist.
  22. jimi, jaco, tony williams. but no dinner, just a jam.
  23. my sincerest condolences. many of us are getting to the age where we have to face losing family members (got the call last week, my grandma is fading fast), its very difficult. much love to you and your family, buddy.
  24. yep. the tone wizard juices the front end of my carr rambler (clean 6L6 1x12 combo) to sustain and barely distort. turn the guitar volume down and the gain backs off, subtle but really nice classic rawk tone. when i run the carr thru my closed back V30 1x12 cab it gets closer to iommi territory. i will check the RR clip when i get home (i'm in iowa visiting friends this weekend, no speakers here on the hotel computer). bev played drums on the born again tour. it was a cool show, gillian picked a bunch of obscure sabs tunes to do, like "rock n roll doctor" and "supernaut".
  25. yeah, saw this years ozzfest, & a few years ago's ozzfest w/ mike bordin on drums, and the 1st reunion tour, their sound was very good. also, saw 'em w/ dio ~81 (side 3 of "live evil" was recorded at that show in dallas), and saw 'em w/ ian gillian on the "born again" tour (which also was very good, they did "smoke on the water" as an encore!). i just got a lockhardt tone wizard, which is a geranium boost like the rangemaster.
