Any early 80s (or late 70s) doible cream Dimarzio PAF (with the beveled slugs) will be at or pretty dead on spec. They're easy to find-there's one on EBay now for $50. The neck pickus are the tough ones to replace.

Fender Bringing back the Starcaster and Coronado
serial replied to Citrus's topic in Hamer Fan Club Messageboard
Fender's answer to the question nobody was asking. Reissue the Coronado? Methinks their proximity to Mexico has Fender execs making smoke-induced decisions. Coronados, even clean original vintage examples, are still very cheap. Why? Because they were awful!! There's a hipster cult around the Starcaster, but I've never played a decent one and the ones I have were remarkably heavy. -
If anyone sees any typos, pm me-its easier to track them that way. Thanks!

Carvin Guitars--what's the REAL story?
serial replied to Thundersteel's topic in Hamer Fan Club Messageboard
I don't like Carvins because I think I recall seeing on the Internet that they were built by Oompa-Loompas in sweatshop conditions. That would explain the tone issues, but I kind of doubt it, as Veruca Salt's father bought all of the O-Ls after Willy Wonka was killed in an unfortunate taste test and the unforgiving Mr. Salt had them turned into school lunchmeat and sold off as sex slaves to a resort in the South Pacific. -
I'll have a small number available-just reordered today. Sold out the first two orders. Just ordered a dozen today and many are spoken for, but i'll have a few left.

Carvin Guitars--what's the REAL story?
serial replied to Thundersteel's topic in Hamer Fan Club Messageboard
I have never played one (and I don't even hate the headstocks) that was anywhere close to the hype. Decent guitars? Sure, but not great and miles below the Gibson Historics or Hamer stuff I've owned. Most of them are butt ugly IMHO as well-too close to classic shapes but made just a little different in all of the wrong ways. -
Thanks for all of the kind words-glad that the book is being enjoyed!

Carvin Guitars--what's the REAL story?

The common denominator in all of the Carvins I've detested over the years were those 22 pole pickups. Horrible. -
Carvin Guitars--what's the REAL story?
serial replied to Thundersteel's topic in Hamer Fan Club Messageboard
Yes. Basses are ok, but not for me. Every time I've played in a band win a guitarist using a Carvin, they were the worst sounding guitars Ive ever heard. Maybe the new ones are better, but used to be I could close my eyes and when I heard a lousy sounding guitar, I would know it was a Carvin. Ugh. Put me in the. 'Much hate' category, just below Heritages. -
Got some VERY cool ideas for a second volume!
