This EXACT thing happened at Wake. I was on a committee who was pressing to get REM and it was between the two. We lost and they sold a dozen tickets maybe. How out of touch the powers that be were. REM sold out the Dean Dome on that tour and they were willing to play Wait Chapel. Stupid. Cmatthes is wrong-"WBTC" is not possibly the worst song in history-it IS the worst. "Jane" is still a great song.

I like the Mirage that doesn't exist. Like a true mirage. I think that's one of Hamer's fugliest designs. Oddly enough, I'm writing a segment on them as I post this.

"At Budokan" made me graduate from Kiss and Ted Nugent. Almost immediately, I discovered Van Halen. Currently have VH 1, 2, WACF and Fair Warning in the car. Driving to the Shore on Sat am (3+ hours alone with music), I thought to myself that VH2 is way underrated as one of the best VH LPs. Drums on "Outta Love Again" kick so much ass. Eddie really runs the entire spectrum on that one too.

Blitzes and Standards are VERY different. The checkerboard Explorer that Peter had years ago was a converted Blitz unless he picked up another (which is of course possible) since then. The conversion was apparent from the heel, the edges, the Blitz headstock (with centered logo) and a round cavity for the pickup selector switch. Paul thought that Peter had the one made for Paul Simon's son. There were two (or possibly 3) four digit checkerboard Standards done including Rick's. One was for an English Guitar mag contest and the guitar (not Rick's) is pictured. The Simon guitar may have come later and actually have been a converted Blitz done at Hamer, although that seems further fetched.

Santana was THE most painfully boring act I've ever seen live. Kiz nails it-sure he has a distinctive sound, but it's like a "nails on a blackboard" horribly annoying sound (ok, more like a mosquito buzzing in your ear). Men at Work were better live and .38 Special, although they might have been worse than Santana, at least had a decent song or two (but they were AWFUL live).
