No, but a brief bump from "Pull Me Under" didn't make them a successful singles band. The proof is in the record sales and/or ticket sales. DT ain't headlining the same venues that Maiden or Rush are. ...... will have zero interest in Dream Theater. I give up....you're both right.....and how can I argue when everything you say is not simply your opinion, but fact? Get back to work. -

You're saying DT has never had radio play.......none............ever? I think at best you can say your experiences have been different than mine, but I think to dismiss DTs capability to reach that demographic is a little short sighted. Perhaps rather than radio listener I should have said someone who's not fanatical/maniacal about music? In my mind they're pretty much the same but you apparently need very clear and distinct lines and I crossed one........my apologies. -

Sure, if you go out of your way to replace them with a shit drummer. I didn't say the replacement would be shit, that's your word. All I'm saying is that those less musically inclined would notice a change in singer or guitarist long before a change in bass player or drummer. My wife, for example...has stated she'd never really heard the bass line in most songs until she met me. I choose to believe there are many more that don't. I've never seen a single plug-n-play singer machine, bass machine, or guitar machine for sale in a music store -

Having Petrucci in front of you couldn't hurt. No offense to drummers, but for your average joe radio listener, next to the bass player the drummer is probably the most easily replaced band member without anyone being the wiser. Oh, and no offense to bass players -
PSA: Special K on ebay

I'd be all over that if it wasn't for that big block of wood in the cutaway at the neck joint. For me it completely ruins what is otherwise a fantastic guitar. -
Actually this makes perfect sense, best reason I've heard.

I can understand having faith in a brand, but if I were to sell everything I have but Hamers I'd be missing some great instruments. I own several Hamers, but I've (seriously) owned $500 guitars that played every bit as nice as any Hamer or Gibson CS or _________ guitar I've played. As mentioned before in other threads, my "standard" when it comes to playability is a 1980 $215 (w/case) bolt-on Gretsch BST. It feels better to me than anything else I've picked up at any price point. For me used Hamers offer a higher end guitar at very reasonable prices but I'll never buy a new one. This sounds a whole lot like the Chevy/Ford truck discussions I've heard.

Mine "arrived" today....as in they're in San Diego. USPS informs me they're being held for an additional $0.44 ransom. Might wanna lick another stamp for any future batches shipping to the West coast *this really just means mine are better cause they were the most expensive...or is that only applicable to Gibson picks?

--> QUOTE(David B @ Aug 24 2010, 03:34 PM) ← Just got her. Plays, sounds & looks GREAT! It's cloudy outside, so here's a few indoor shots. I'm not good with a camera though... Incredible!! No lack of photography skills or poor lighting can hide the beauty in this one. Aesthetically this has to be one of the best I've ever seen.

Roughly six months with less than 150 posts and I'm quite enjoying it. I feel there can be discussion, even heated discussion without it being disrespectful, and I don't think it's gone there (yet). I find it interesting, and somewhat of a testament to the brand that while there were so many disagreements and disappointments behind the scenes (and sometimes in front), that it remains a favorite among all/most here. I don't know Jol from Adam, but sounds a bit ego-maniacal. Seems like a no brainer to me that he could have easily gone a little further to throw a little recognition towards the relatively small group of faithful customers he had by building the guitar they wanted. It's not like any of the custom orders mentioned in this thread were asking him to build something that might be seen as anything but a Hamer. Maybe he was made to do things he didn't want to do in junior high school and he had a vendetta Steve

I can't say, I've never heard Paul play edit: Scratch that.......they sound NOTHING alike!!!

I'd recommend trying a few in the Alvarez Yairi line. You can get them relatively cheap used, and while not as popular as Taylor and Martin they're more bang for your buck in my opinion.

Hamer USA T-51 F for sale

Are the two dark spots (top upper bout and just above the bridge pickup) in either the finish or the wood? Beautiful guitar and I "need" a piezo! -

Loved the early stuff, still can't get enough of some of the early tunes. Like many have said already, the signals album took a turn musically that I didn't follow. I've never seen them live but I hear it's something else. My wife saw them in 2003 at Downsview Park in Toronto (SARS Benefit) where they played 2112 in it's entirety.

+1 on this one....the picture doesn't give you a good idea of just how large it is...it would look huge on a 4x12, much less the 1x12...I got to looking at mine the other day and discovered it pulls off/out fairly easily if you're gentle with the few glue spots that hold it in place. Now I've got 4 eraser size holes where the grill cloth was stretched to make room for the posts, but MUCH better imo.

If You Could Be Master of One Instrument...

While I'd love to master the piano, I'd go with guitar simply due to the portability factor. -

Sounds like the kid has quite the following, but I have to agree with straightblues....the lessons you're giving him have GOT to include a little wire-cutter 101! -
