If this was between Feynman moving his latest acquisition before Brentrocks sells something, I wouldn't touch it. But I stand behind anyone trying to hold out longer than either of the above two things happening. If Bubs accepts, he wins this hands down.

Really sorry to hear it. Sounds like lots of great memories were made, so keep them close as you work thru this. -
Gibson experts, I got a trade offer, Help
cynic replied to Scottcrud's question in Ask the HFC Experts
I don't think the RD will bring you much the SG doesn't already give you, unless you think you can flip it for more cash towards an amp, which is doubtful. -
Delusions of grandeur, caught on video

At least he wasn't worried about what his belt buckle was doing to the back of his guitar -
I love me the look of a nice Les Paul, but if the one you were competing against was hanging on a wall with a dozen other guitars there's nothing that makes it stand out to me. Then again, I see nothing special about a Strat that's lost 95% of its finish. Yours was the only one with truly unique features that set it apart from the others.

The Phantom and Virt both look like silly putty strats to me, they've just been pushed/pulled differently but both came out pretty ugly. Oh, and I can't look at the Eclipse without thinking about clitoral/prostate stimulation. That bottom horn is just creepy. My easy answer is any Hamer product that isn't very closely modeled after a previous design from another company is more ugly than attractive. I'm not sure the Newport falls into the "previous design" category as well as others, so I'll make that my lone exception.

Wylbil's Pink SS on Evilbay

I'm pretty sure that one, is THIS ONE -
I'm finding the forum less inviting but it's primarily because of how I use it. In the past, I've always just refreshed by clicking the new content link. When I do that now, the format of the page is different than the typical forum view, with each topic taking up about an inch of real estate across my screen. Given I keep my browser on a 22" screen that remains in portrait mode, one would think I could display more than a dozen topics at a time. Can anyone offer any advice on how to reduce the vertical space taken by each topic, primarily in the "new content" view, but even in the regular forum view it could appear better.

Resident 1st Generation Slammer Series Expert Needed
cynic replied to Crimsontider's topic in Hamer Fan Club Messageboard
Why is a man of your important position ass a Hamer USA owner doing on a thread that specifically asks for help with a Korean model? Ego stroke maybe?.........not here pal, try another thread. First, I don't have to save for a guitar like you obviously do. Why in the world would I want a $1000 USA Californian, when I already have a $1200 USA 79 Stratocaster and a USA 88 BC Rich? Think for yourself instead of using these ignorant cliche's. I say ignorant because you haven't a clue of my situation but concocted one. That I am a poor old Korean Hamer user that doesn't have a USA model because of money. I think he was saying just enjoy the guitar for what it is and not worry about the wood type if you like the sound. If the type of wood is that important to you, HAMER USA uses easily identifiable woods that we could better help you with. -

Punky Meadows! I used to think that was such a cool name. I'm not sure if it was Greg Giuffria being from Gulfport, MS, but Angel opened for a few bands in Biloxi when I was a kid (1 being Aerosmith on the DTL tour I think). Always put on a really good show. -

I attended the San Diego show last night. Elduave's review pretty much nails it. The only two things I would add are the attitude of the two sets changes quite a bit. During the FCA set there were lots of jokes and interplay with the audience while the second set had a much more serious vibe. It came across to me as if he's either insecure about the music (doubtful) or that it comes from a much deeper place and carries more meaning. He seemed more entranced by it. The second thing (and notable exception to my first point) is how great the FCA acoustic set with PF alone on the stage was. He did Wind of Change, Just the Time of the Year, Penny for Your Thoughts, and All I want to Be with more emotion and soul than I've ever heard them (okay, maybe not so much with PFYT). What struck me during this four song stretch is how proud I am to be part of the older generation, because last night was further proof that no one does it better than those that have been around awhile. May have even got a bit of gas from Adam Lester's Deusenberg. Anyone have a Starplayer TV they want to move?

Like many others here probably did, I followed the build. Some of what he did in fabrication was cool, but nothing that hasn't been done and isn't being done by any number of small companies every day. Don't much care for the finished product, but that's often the case when the builder (not sculptor or artist, why isn't guitar builder enough for some people?) is primarily looking to satisfy only themselves versus a customer.

When I bought my tix online there was a disclaimer on the page noting the shows in Ledyard, CT and Lincoln, CA were being restricted to 2 hours by the venue.

PSA: Wilcutts Posts all Hamers to eBay
cynic replied to atquinn's topic in For Sale - Wanted to Buy - PIF - eBay & Other PSAs
No need to rush, they were made in 07-08 and less than half of the run of seven has sold. Having them for that long, I'd guess their pricing is pretty firm. -
Great review Dave. I'm seeing him 8/2 in San Diego and hope the show is as good as you describe.

Whats the Last 5 Albums you've bought?
cynic replied to bubs_42's topic in Hamer Fan Club Messageboard
Or, it's an example of how culturally rich America is, since the better music is selling out before making it to the supermarket bins. In the event you're correct, at least we have those like you that are so far above it all that it still averages out in the end -

What is the correct neck/body weight to balance a bolt-on properly?
cynic replied to humfree's question in Ask the HFC Experts
+1. I've never heard it expressed as a ratio before, but given the strap attaches to the body anything less than 5-1 (in my guesstimation) could be a bit "dippy". 100% pure speculation on my part with absolutely no hard facts to back it up Ash strats with maple necks have been around awhile and I've not played many that were neck heavy. Someone somewhere must have done the math and figured it's a formula that works out most times. edited to add: A few other numbers....I found a strat neck for comparison as well. Both necks are unfinished with no hardware other than the truss rod. I also incorrectly stated 1.2lbs for the tele neck, it's actually 1lb 2ozs. Strat - Vintage carve - 1lb 6ozs Tele - Thin carve - 1lb 2ozs Schaller locking tuners (chrome) - 8ozs Both necks are all maple, the strat is two piece the tele one piece. I can't imagine the finish would add very much so I can't see either reaching 2lbs fully finished with hardware. A fully loaded strat pickguard is around 12ozs, with strap buttons, neck plate and jack taking it very close to one pound. After all is said and done, it's a 5lb body and 2lb neck, so your guesses at ratio's don't seem as far off as I would have guessed. Whatever weight the finish adds to the body, the end result would be closer to 3-1 than 2-1, but if you're looking for unfinished neck weight to put on a lightweight body, I'd look for something within a few ounces of 1lb vice 2.
