Geoff - You can score an AxeFX Ultra and be happy with that if you don't want to wait for an Axe2. The Ultra is more than capable. And as Austin suggested, MFC1 for your midi needs. Or you could dig up a Marshall JMP1 or more versitile Mesa TriAxis and get a EFX box like a G-major. I've heard the Digitech 1101 is pretty good but have not run into one to try.

+1 Axe FX/Axe Fx Ultra Eleven Rack will get you there as well but a bit limited IMO compared to the AxeFX I do not like the Line 6 HD stuff at all.

Thanks for the comments so far guys. This was done on ProTools 9. All electric guitars were played by me and tracked with the AxeFX II direct. Acoustics were miced in the bathroom, LOL. Bass was done using Eleven rack done by a friend - it really makes the track. If you can listen with headphones you'll really hear the sick bass playing. Drums were played by bass player's brother on a roland V-kit using the Nashville Kit plug in on EZ Drummer via MIDI. Add some cool vocals and bam done. The bridge backup vocals are like 6 tracks of 3 of us singing at ther same time = huge! I EQ'd & mixed the track as well. The lead tone was a Solodano patch recorded with a PRS Custom 24. The clean edge- like stuff is AC30 with dotted 8th delay played on a G&L strat (legacy?). Marshall used for a crunch sound with a PRS Hollowbody. And I think there are clean tracks with it as well with a Fender sim. Again all AxeFX II with minimal dailing in of tones.

I'm on the list for an Axe FX II. I have an Ultra right now that's great. I really want to be able to go direct and I'm finally getting to the point where I'm happy with my tone that way.

Yup, just going by all the customs ordered by members of the HFC, there are many examples of custom orders. I have 3 customs myself: a Standard Custom, a Studio Custom and a Watson. There's a Jr and a monaco Jr with a sustain block bridge, green burst standard, the punisher standard, etc...

Picked up this CD over the weekend. Not bad. It's a throwback to the earlier WS - more bluesy playing.

Their stuff prior to Slide it In is very good too. They were a blues based band prior to the hair metal image.

Good to be Bad was an awesome album. Don't forget about Reb Beach!

There are all kinds of rumors. The album is done. They just went into the studio. who knows. It won't live up to the hype.

I have a Midisport 2x2. The Uno did not work for me (and many others). Right now I'm running mine thru a crate power block. I've also used a Tubeworks Mosfet but that's kinda heavy. I may go back to my old ADA micro tube 200.

There's a great factory patch called 'Eruption' that nails EVH tone right out of the box. There's also a May patch to get you started. The 'Brown' sim is a clone of a hotrodded Marshall that I suggest you start with for more EVH tones. There are so many EQ and Filters you can have in your signal chain that you should not need any outboard stuff. The HBE sounds great if you crank the master and lower the gain. As Brooks suggested, start with just the amp block and tweak to taste. Then add some EQ if needed. Then efx like reverb, delay, or a drive block in front.
