Me thinks you answered your own question. Bring your amp and know what you're in for. You'll be happier not looking back at the amp the whole time if you don't like what you're hearing.

The only guitars I have had a 59 in that sounded good to me (and only in the neck position) were a Duotone and a diablo. I had a pair of them in my Standard Custom (korina body and neck) and they sounded crappy to me. I have Rios in my Standard now and they are better.

I wound up with a first fret crown on my BCR sparkle Studio without asking for it. I'm guessing I got it because I upgraded to ebony which was (still is) standard on the Newport Custom/Artist Ultimate and when they were buliding it borrowed a board that would have been used for ine of those.

I was going to suggest some progressive stuff like Enchant, Threshold and Vanden Plas, but it might not be what you are really looking for. All three bands have great melodic singing and not too technical over the op arranngenents, but probably to far from what you are really looking for.

Ernie Ball couldn't keep up with the EVH demand. As Steve mentioned Hamer was cranking out way more guitars in the late 80s than today.

How will these handle high gain: Mesa Recto, MArk IV lead, chugga chugga stuff? I've been tempted to try the heaven and hell set or whatever they call it.

Indeed it's a bad album cover, but there are far worse. My favorite scorpions related memory: I was in middle school probably 7th grade. On the bus home, one of the other kids had a sign he made in woodshop. Boy was he proud of it. He had routed 'S-C-O-R-P-I-A-N-S onto a board about 18 inches long. I'll never forget it, LOL!

One of the issues around any Hamer guitar is that there prices have increased significantly. Right now the lowest list is $3,600 for an off the shelf model Studio. I wonder what they would list a mahogany special at since the Korina Jr is $3,800? Another issue is not only trying to find 5 - 10 folks who want a limited guitar, but how do you decide on features? A reissue of some sort would make the most sense, but price point would seem to be out of reach for most. In the past there were several attempts at different guitars and they mostly have not panned out. It's been mentioned about a offshore speced out Hamer, but I don't think that would happen. Many folks here are simply not going to spring for a Hamer import. Too many what ifs.

Not that you asked, but I find the trem on the Ernie Ball John Petrucci guitars to be equally as excellent as the PRS. It's not available on any of their other guitars, though.
