I'm not a consumer of that periodical (or any periodical for that matter), and I would argue that there is nothing less Rock and Roll than following the word "guitar" with the word "aficionado."

But I digress...

Of all the tens of thousands of guitar players who go there just to go there and have bought countless guitars from there and blahbiddyblahblahblah, the majority of the "documentary" (I put "documentary" in quotes because the more I reflect on it, the more it looks like an investor pitch and less like a documentary), is testimonial content form actors.

Upon reflection, I tend to agree.  A well conceived documentary of the vintage guitar industry would have covered the origin stories of several other dealers.

Not for a while.  It went under pre-pandemic and was folded into Guitar Player, at least for a while.  A victim of Future's consolidation as much as anything.  I don't think I ever bought one, and I was rarely (if ever) tempted.

There is a Guitar Aficionado web site (which has been Future's MO for the mags it's killed), but I don't remember the mag's logo to know if it's affiliated.  The first article that comes up - and I'm not joking - is "What Is A Guitar Lick?"  Which tells you something about their target audience.

I never bought one, so I wasn't even sure if it was still in print. The whole idea of a guitar aficionado is sort of a trope or archetype to me. The few times I saw one on a magazine rack, I found the covers alone to be vomit  inducing.

Anybody remember the 'Chinery Collection', and what happened to it after he died?  Other than the "Blue Guitars", I suspect most all his other guitars went to the highest buyer/bidder:

The Blue Guitars

My niece is friends with the widow.

I think a lot of the guitars (if not all) have been sold off.
She still has a Batmobile, Batcycle and sidecar, though.  Years ago she was going to arrange a date where I would get to drive the Batmobile, but that never materialized.
