bruce919 Posted February 3 Posted February 3 If I had the $$, I'd would have tried to get at least one of the amps or guitars that went up for sale as well. Gary sounded like Gary whatever he played through. IN the 2000's he played thru mainly DSL with a few pedals. I had read around his passing there was a Marshall 100 watt, Plexi GM model in the works with build in reverb. 3 Quote
Disturber Posted February 3 Posted February 3 (edited) John Norum (Europe guitarist) bought Gary Moore's old JMP. I am sorry to fart on Joe's joy over the Soldano, but owning Gary's old JMP is way cooler in my book. Here together with Opeth guitarist (and best friend) Kulle. I wonder if Gary even used this JMP with Lizzy? That would be like owning the holiest of Grails. "John Norum was the buyer of Gary’s legendary 1972 Marshall Superbass! This was the amp he used to record his early rock album e.g Corridors of Power and was his main live amp throughout the 80’s!" Edited February 10 by Disturber 11 1 Quote
Vintage Hamer-Lover Posted February 3 Posted February 3 Crazy but interesting: the sound differences of the same amp in US and Europe caused by voltage and cycles. And also by the origin genes if American or European made amps like Fender or Marshall. Nevertheless: Gary and Joe (and mostly everone) sound like Gary or Joe with SLO 100, JTM 45 or DSL 2000. Glad to know that. 4 Quote
Jakeboy Posted February 3 Posted February 3 Gary Moore was such a monster. I remember reading in a blues mag that he played an Orange Tiny Terror on a couple tunes on his great album “Close As It Gets”. 6 Quote

Vintage Hamer-Lover Posted February 4 Posted February 4 .. I met him once in the 90s backstage in Festhalle Frankfurt before his show: great great guy! Absolutely relaxed. As music jounalist I was told for no(!) reason to ask him about his scar on his cheek, was probably from a former girlfriend. He started talking about it by himself 🙃 7 Quote
Dave Harris Posted February 4 Posted February 4 Huh. Gary Moore was my near neighbour in Hove, UK (Vallance Gardens, specifically). I got one of his guitars... a Les Paul goldtop... 12 Quote

He was using Orange 4x12 cabinets with his Marshall DSL heads. He was doing a sound check right before they open the doors in Shielfield. 4 Quote
scottcald Posted February 4 Posted February 4 Gary Moore to me, was far more interesting than a lot of other players. In 1980/81 when I heard End of the World on the radio, I had to go out the next day and get Corridors of Power. So many people are only aware of the Still Got the Blues and later stuff, but man, I'd hold him up against anyone and put my money on him. That white Hamer is fantastic. To me, if it had the 6 in line a la the Stevens, it'd be perfect. 4 Quote

Not a crack on Gary - I am not really a fan of any straight ahead blues album's. 2 1 Quote
