@Case, what is the neck profile? My 1980 was way too thin and skinny…is this one like that or more like a Vintage Carve?

Skinny-ish on this one - measures about .85 at the first to .9 at the 12th. 

As for smell.. no odors, new or old

Yes it looks good.  I inquired previously but the guitar i was actually looking for (es347) then immediately popped up so i bought that one and have to sit and watch here.  They are kinda similar, right?

somebody talk to me about the "shelf nut".  Never seen that mentioned as a distinguishing original feature.

The '96 Special FM I owned years ago had one. Worked fine by me.

I will say my '80 or '81 (?) Special did not have that nut (more gratuitous pictures) but it looks like my '83 Phantom A5 did.

I'm at work, so I don't have access to the Book! (odd as that may seem), but there could be some mention of that nut in there.
