anotherfreak2 Posted April 6, 2005 Posted April 6, 2005 You may not have noticed me not being around very much(and you may not care So at the end of January we had an anniversary party to celebrate me not running the business into the ground. We had the party in an empty metel building 2600 sq feet, we had bands and craploads of food from so many wonderful peolpe/families/students/friends. so here it is May 5th and I am happy to announce the opening of our new home The Guitar House http://www.theguitarhouseonline.com/newdigspage.htm I now have my shopspace I have needed, The shelving to have the best guitar music selection in the state of IOWA! and four Isolated lesson studios with six great Teachers to fill them! We're comming out swingin'. I have to say this has been a dream come true for me being a teacher for the last fifteen years, to be able to call this MINE(with the wife of course is the greatest thing I have ever done(I don't have kids yet) I'm putting together better pages of all the stages of the construction and moving, we have had so much help that I never asked for or expected and I cannot tell you how grateful I am for everything and how it has worked out so far. So if you are ever in Iowa come on by and have plenty of time, you're going to want to be here a while and I would love to accomodate your visit. Have a great Day!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
tomteriffic Posted April 6, 2005 Posted April 6, 2005 WOOHOO!!! Indeed, Bill! A hearty congrats on all the hard work and on your success so far. It looks great! Besides the hard work, it takes some very good business sense, not to mention nerves of steel, to own and operate your own music store. I wish you nothing but the best!
Craig Posted April 6, 2005 Posted April 6, 2005 Bill - lots of luck to ya! Glad to see a good man making a go of it. I'm no where near you, so I'll admire the pics. Cheers
elduave Posted April 6, 2005 Posted April 6, 2005 Bill, that's inspiring. Good work! I'm sure it's early days so I'm assuming you're planning on putting some posters up and stuff. If you are, drop me a line and I'll send you some stuff. Again, inspiring!
JES1680 Posted April 6, 2005 Posted April 6, 2005 NICE! Running your own business can be the most frustrating and rewarding experience. Where in Iowa are you? Good Luck!
LarryC Posted April 6, 2005 Posted April 6, 2005 Very nicely done Bill! I wish you the best of luck for continued success! Your shop looks really sharp!
anotherfreak2 Posted April 6, 2005 Author Posted April 6, 2005 Thanks Tom! and for the emails on where we are: We are in North Liberty IA, just twenty miles south of Cedar Rapids and four miles north of Coral Ridge Mall. We are right off I-80 so no matter where you are comming from we are easy to get to(and hard to resist) I still have posters/banners to hang to make it look more inviting. This has been the most frustrating/rewarding thing I have ever done!
MCChris Posted April 6, 2005 Posted April 6, 2005 NICE! Running your own business can be the most frustrating and rewarding experience. I've never seen a bigger understatement LOL!From one small business owner to another, I give you the highest accolades. In today's climate, every day you remain open is an achievement. Every time you can improve on what you've already built, that's a conquest.
hardheartedbill Posted April 6, 2005 Posted April 6, 2005 Congrats Bill, you should be proud, I'm dying to get something like you have going on for myself
MCChris Posted April 6, 2005 Posted April 6, 2005 Congrats Bill, you should be proud, I'm dying to get something like you have going on for myself http://www.sba.govMakes it amazingly easy to get off the ground. Staying there is your problem LOL.
anotherfreak2 Posted April 6, 2005 Author Posted April 6, 2005 I love it! I am very greatful for the people who come in and shop with us. They are the whole reason I can do what I do. So I want them to have the most comfortable shopping experience everytime they come in the store. 18 hour days are pretty common, but I love to be here. Anybody who wants to do something like this I would encourage to do it, expect a lot more work than you plan for but when you are done it's yours and you did it and it feels wonderful at the end of the day when you look around and see what you've done STILL the undesputed King of the run-on sentence!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! thanks for listening bill hook http://www.theguitarhouseonline.com
Stike Posted April 6, 2005 Posted April 6, 2005 Iowa, you ever play at Gabe's Oasis in Iowa city? I've had more than one person agree that might be one of the shittiest load ins in America.
anotherfreak2 Posted April 6, 2005 Author Posted April 6, 2005 HA!!!!!!! it IS one of the Shittiest load ins I have ever had!!!! but I've only been around Iowa and Tulsa(OK). Gabes does have it's share of great shows ie: New Earth Mud last year and The Gin Blossoms and so on the list of great bands is huge. The only problem is they are loud, it is a dive of a place sheet metal ceiling/panel walls make for a lot of aweful overtones, and most of the shows are so loud it is unbearable, after a while all I can hear is HISSSSSSSS and I have to go outside for a while. It is very up close and personal, two foot tall stage and people can touch you(which can freak you out if you are not paying attention to what's going on) so it's real "intimate" and it is a fun place to play. but I'd pick the Green Room over it any day! wow, if you are getting around you gotta stop by sometime bill http://www.theguitarhouseonline.com

The Avalon in Chicago was the worst I've ever encountered. Up and down a long flight of stairs with the metal edges of each step unattached and sticking up into the air. I watched a very drunk Ace Frehley try to navigate it once and he wasn't even carrying anything. It was like watching O.J.'s low speed Bronco chase. You couldn't look away for fear of missing it ending badly.

anotherfreak2 Posted April 6, 2005 Author Posted April 6, 2005 sure is, but there is a rug on it so you don't see it(until it's too late)!actually I don't remember a hole, they may have fixed it by now, BUT IT'S STILL A DIVE!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
