jwood Posted July 27, 2006 Posted July 27, 2006 Does anyone out there know of a source for reproduction Hamer decals? After I strip my SS1 I will want to re-apply the Hamer decal on the Headstock for sure. And if I can get one, I'd like to get the Steve Stevens logo and copyright info on the back. I heard that a past member of this group "Kadrian" or something used to produce these. But his old road runner email account no longer is active. Any other leads?ThanksJeff Wood
Hamer95USA Posted July 28, 2006 Posted July 28, 2006 Hey guys, Hellrider67, the guy the moderators suspended, had his Phantom GT headstock decal made by Monster Guitar Shop. Here is the link: http://monsterguitarshop.com/ He also made a Steve Stevens decal for my friend's damaged SS1 headstock repair. Give him a call. Guitar George
Stike Posted July 29, 2006 Posted July 29, 2006 The waterslide decals eventually won't look right. No matter how well they get trimmed with most excellent Xacto kung fu the carrier film will show. I've used this guy for custom rub on transfers before, not sure if he does any reproduction logos but it's worth asking. http://www.allout-graphics.com/
Jai Posted February 17, 2012 Posted February 17, 2012 I'd like to resurrect this thread as I am refinishing a Hamer Phantom A5 for a guy and will be needing a replacement decal for the headstock. All I've found online so far is just a standard Hamer USA logo, need one that has the Phantom and little A5 to be accurate. Any new sources in the way of decals, transfers, or vector files and I can make my own?

The only way to do this is to take a high resolution photograph of the original headstock decal, clean it up in photoshop and then render a vector file. Stike's All Out Graphics dude is pretty cool. His name is Manfred Schlager and he does some really fine work... he's affordable too. This is okay but... it's angled a bit away from the camera, you want the decal exactly parallel to the camera lens so no distortion occurs (it can be fixed in PS but it's always better if you don't have to) and you want the photograph to be at least 8 megapixels 'cause we are going to be converting from pixel to vector and you need the highest resolution possible for the least amount of aliasing to occur. The A5 is the same font as the U.S.A. just smaller and in bold... the Phantom font is bizarre and looks to be custom but there might be some printing experts out there who might know the exact name of the font or could suggest a comparable.

And an iPhone pic won't get me that kinda resolution, so looks like I might be contacting this gentlemen you mentioned.
Bobby Marshall Posted February 17, 2012 Posted February 17, 2012 Is it the red A5 that recently sold on Ebay? That one was beat up real nice. I woulda loved that as is . . .

Most people are either slightly hesitant or refuse to work with trademarked logos. He's cool with it but I wouldn't press him on it. Your best bet is to ask around here on the forum and see if anyone has a high resolution photo of a Phantom A5 headstock.
Toadroller Posted February 18, 2012 Posted February 18, 2012 Interesting timing reviving this thread.I'm beginning the finishing work (rattle-can painting and veneer/clear-coating) on my first (and probably last!) project guitar, a flying V for my boy Henry, age 11. He's a chip off the ol' block; analytical, gets deep into his interests, and calls himself "The Hengineer." He loves Hamer as much as his dad, and wants to call the guitar the "Hamy V."I want to put a logo on the headstock to that effect, in Hamer's bookman bold italic font. HAMY V. I see that I can inkjet onto water-slide stock and can get the font. What are the chances of inkjetting onto a dry-transfer, or finding a bookman bold italic in a color non-black?
cmatthes Posted February 18, 2012 Posted February 18, 2012 Jai:As Stike mentioned, the dry transfers are what Hamer used/uses, and look much better than the decals. That being said, I'll look around - I think I have some around here somewhere...maybe even a "Phantom A5" one?
tobereeno Posted February 18, 2012 Posted February 18, 2012 I'm interested in getting my name put on my headstocks of my true keeper guitars. I think I remember many years ago about a source for the dry transfer letters Hamer used to letter in people's names?
cmatthes Posted February 18, 2012 Posted February 18, 2012 Tobe - there is (was) a straight Letraset set that did that, but I picked up a set of something similar in a hobby shop a few years back. They were from a model train product producer or something.
tobereeno Posted February 18, 2012 Posted February 18, 2012 would you happen to know what font and size Hamer used for putting names under the logo?

I had Manfred make me a small sheet of A5 logos but I think they've all been used or damaged. There's a small chance he might still have that art on file but that was awhile ago so he might have gotten rid of it by now. Let me look around my hard drive to see if I still have the vector art of that logo. If I do I'll send you a copy that you can send to him.

No wasn't that one, this one was brought in by a guy who's had it a long time. Was white originally. I kept asking him, you sure you want this refinished? A lot of people pay to have it look like this. It was pretty beat up though, with some holes drilled in it.

Steve Haynie Posted February 20, 2012 Posted February 20, 2012 I want to put a logo on the headstock to that effect, in Hamer's bookman bold italic font. HAMY V. I see that I can inkjet onto water-slide stock and can get the font. What are the chances of inkjetting onto a dry-transfer, or finding a bookman bold italic in a color non-black?Dry transfer logos or letters are pre-cut. You cannot inkjet anything with them. There was a process for adding color to them in the old Letraset catalogs, and it was possible to order them in color. At this time it appears that Letraset does not have the Bookman Bold Italic font in its stock sets of letters. Be wary of trying to buy used sheets of Letraset lettering. My experience is that after they were stored for a long time the letters got gummy and harder to work with.
