peedenmark7 Posted April 8, 2005 Author Posted April 8, 2005 there are more out there than you think... I'll find one sooner or later, I'm patient.... I've seen 3 in the last year & one especially was very cool...I cant seem to spend enough money with hamer to get what I "want" made these days...their retails have also grown faster than most brands.they only wanna do what they wanna do anyway....so for now my money spends elsewhere.sure I could have a new standard made with a 1st fret crown inlay...but dont ask for a single hum sunburst... or anything out of the ordinary for that matter.... I guess I'm an oldschooler who still expects them to build me one offs and jump through hoops for my money..remember......'people start suggesting things just to top themselves. and we have to make them!'thats a thing of the past ......

black magic Posted April 9, 2005 Posted April 9, 2005 I totally agree with John, Hamer is way to hard to deal with and isn`t very flexible. I won`t kiss their ass to make me what I want either. Jackson has my money now, they are very open to making cool things. Jack.
DavidE Posted April 9, 2005 Posted April 9, 2005 I don't know.... we've seen some pretty cool unusual things coming from Hamer lately. I think they're being somewhat flexible, but just because they don't want to build what you guys want doesn't mean they're being hard to deal with. There are just limits to what they want to do.

I had a guitar quoted for you two years ago that was exactly what you wanted.

I'm confused. Hamer won't build every guitar you want, so you're not willing to buy a guitar from them that they would have no problem at all making? Or are you just trying to save money and using the other stuff as a smokescreen? Not that anything's wrong with saving money . I have yet to buy a new Hamer myself; the stuff I want from them, I can find used. -Austin
peedenmark7 Posted April 10, 2005 Author Posted April 10, 2005 greg, youre partially correct....in that you did quote me...I wanted a bound and crowned single hum sunburst in vintage charvel aqua burst.... I emailed you a reference picture of the finish and for some reason hamer wouldnt/couldnt duplicate the finish ..... I talked to kim and frank, they wanted me to go with a green burst that they had done in the past... [charvel aqua burst link below]I also wanted a single hum..and thats what really killed the order. I was told they couldnt do the single hum because of the construction method... hhmmmmm how'd they make me the several single hum guitars they did back in the day ? way back I was told they couldnt do a prototype without a pickgaurd... well heres the "one off " '85 proto they made for me.... [proto link below]the whole idea in me placing a custom order was to get something out of the ordinary..... so basically other than getting the sustain block bridge, I was getting a plain ole flat top sunburst , in a color they wanted to do.why is it on this board people are always accusing others of trying to save money ?this is the only board I hear that thrown around on a regular basis...sounds like some boutique store brain washing going on here...you dont build 100 guitar plus collections shooting your bankroll on every purchase.I have no problem spending for new, when I am getting exactly what I want for it. greg as I told you back then, after some thought , I decided not to order... I appreciate your time and thanked you for checking into it, but felt I was compromising what I initially wanted. I ordered a new custom shop jackson instead. guess what ? they had no problem making what I wanted in that direction. truth be told I didnt save any money, it cost a bit more than the flametop sunburst you quoted.... further, if hamer truly has no problem making what a person wants why is it I cant get a "one off" firebird or vector ? the NO to that request came direct from top hamer brass...I rest my case.http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v57/peed.../blueflame1.jpghttp://img.photobucket.com/albums/v57/peed...k7/934e5911.jpg
peedenmark7 Posted April 10, 2005 Author Posted April 10, 2005 GMP builds a very nice guitar ! in fall , I am ordering a firebird with graphic. I have the pricing all worked out with a good dealer... theres a slick V on ebay right now...
Mobster Posted April 10, 2005 Posted April 10, 2005 Hey John, that 85 Proto is WAY cool!!!Did the factory do the Dayglo job on it, or did you have Dan Lawrence or somebody do it?Either way, looks incredible! So idoes that Charvel, for that matter....
guitarzandstuff Posted April 10, 2005 Posted April 10, 2005 GMP builds a very nice guitar ! in fall , I am ordering a firebird with graphic. I have the pricing all worked out with a good dealer... theres a slick V on ebay right now... iffn thats teh Chromalusion GMP V... it used to be mine and it exists in the music store where I work... very nice guitar!!!I just needed my Taylor back so I had to trade it...
peedenmark7 Posted April 10, 2005 Author Posted April 10, 2005 yep the cracked dayglo is factory... . [ I sold it in '87 got it back in '96 in nowhere near the condition when I sold it , she was flawless]I ordered this guitar with an unfinished maple neck & watched it get shaped by jol, specs taken right off my '81 proto that day....when the guitar came in.... it had a plain mahogany neck obviously for a blitz and shaped nothing like my '81 proto......unfinished mahogany is dreadful....... the back of the headstock also has the dayglo finish, they didnt put my name on the headstock either ,so I sent it back to have that done... I clear coated the back of the neck 2 days after getting it back..... I shouldve just had them paint the back of the neck to match the rest.I was f'n furious with them. I was going to refuse the guitar, but figured screw it, last hamer...by the time my hamer came in , I was already playing my jackson soloist 2 months.... I special ordered it the same day as the dayglo ..... I liked my jackson so much that I've been playing/collecting them ever since.jim allen spun some tale that steve stevens was in the factory a couple days after me and liked my neck, so they gave it to him.....he swore up and down that was the case.... like I should really care about steves guitar needs......funny I never saw steve with an explorer headstocked S.S.
Brewmaster Posted April 10, 2005 Posted April 10, 2005 I'm really confused now. After seeing Mobster's latest custom order I thought they would do anything if you were persistent enough. I guess not.
peedenmark7 Posted April 11, 2005 Author Posted April 11, 2005 what I came away with from that conversation with kim was, hamer has been there and done that with respect to the firebirds and vector...theyve moved on and grown in a different direction...thats really the bottom line on not wanting to do them.kims been nothing but good to me over the years ....so, I take it on faith that thats the case...I didnt wanna get into an in depth conversation on them not wanting to build my guitars... its not the end all, but I was disappointed....I have lots of vintage hamer stuff and appreciated the good ole days.I posted with an interest in a first fret standard custom with headstock binding , so thats where I will keep it from here on....
