serial Posted August 30, 2006 Posted August 30, 2006 Seriously-what are you looking to get for the silverburst?
DavidE Posted August 30, 2006 Posted August 30, 2006 Love the 25/50.I remember those silverburst models! I'm old.
cmatthes Posted August 30, 2006 Posted August 30, 2006 Jeez - guess I'm a geezer too! I remember our local dealer in DE having 3 of the 25/50s all lined up in a case with all the other Les Pauls. I rememer that they were $1,250 at the time, which might as well have been $10k. Of course, he still had 2 of them 10 years later.I bought my LP Custom NEW there a couple years later for $629.00 (Just found the tag!)
geoff_hartwell Posted August 30, 2006 Posted August 30, 2006 Why's it called 25/50?(Sorry, I was born in 1977)
Scooter Posted August 30, 2006 Posted August 30, 2006 Was it becuase it was the 25th anniversary of the LP and the 50th for Gibson?
serial Posted August 30, 2006 Posted August 30, 2006 As I recall, the dates were subject to a good bit of criticism for their "accuracy", but the 25 was to celebrate 25 years of the Les Paul (they got that wrong) and the 50 was to celebrate Les Paul's 50 years in show business (also inaccurate IIRC). Silly Norlin! Cool (but usually VERY heavy) LP though.
iownit4 Posted August 30, 2006 Author Posted August 30, 2006 the 25/50 is about 11lbs on bathroom scale..the class 5 is about 8lbs..
hamersandstrats Posted August 31, 2006 Posted August 31, 2006 About 10 years ago, I bought a 25/50 from Sam Ash for about $450-it was in crappy condition, but a luthier friend of mine cleaned it up real nice and offered to buy it for $850. I was tempted, because deep down I wanted a Black LP Custom. I said no, and then he offered to trade another guitar that he just took in, an "original Hamer Standard model" from 1979. He told me the two guitars were the same age. At the time, I was not a Hamer fan, but I remember the guitar-it was either natural or a very light lemonburst color, very lightweight. I am kicking myself now. Hard.
iownit4 Posted August 31, 2006 Author Posted August 31, 2006 wow !! I seen a 25/50 in black @ NJ guitar center , That's cool . I love the guitar it plays real nice and sound killer ,it's just too heavy too gig with for 3 sets !! I guess I could use it for 1 set . I gig about 2-3 times a week in a cover band ,and I bring the PA system also . My back is shot by the end of the week (Sunday)... If it sells I will prob regret it down the road ,I have a few les pauls that are staying with me too the end ..like my Goldtop .. http://i4.photobucket.com/albums/y110/iownit4/IMG_0004.jpg
