BadJaxx Posted May 1, 2005 Posted May 1, 2005 Sold! And not for nothing...a memo to the 2 guys below...(David E & MuseCafeChris)I think it is in extreme bad taste to judge a for sale ad. The discussion page has its own link. Would you like it if you had a for sale ad and some idiot decides to tell the world your price is high? Let the market bear what it will. You are not helping anyone, especially me. I pulled the ad, so now nobody gets it here. With morons like you, its a wonder anyone uses this forum to sell anything. Keep your comments to yourself, it will help everyone.Get a life boyz...geez! the first 2 times i looked in this thread i refrained from posting...can't stop myself now...so you came here hoping to find someone who'd overpay?...."Buyer Beware"???what an ASS!can't stand people like you....oh no, you're pulling the ad from this site? so we can't get reamed by you?...i'm weeping...good riddance...
Guest Buck Dharma Posted May 1, 2005 Posted May 1, 2005 I must confess that after reading posts #2 and #3, I FELT that the feedback or comments about the price being 'too high' were awkward and unnecessary. On the other, recieving or getting flaming emails with lots of rude language isn't in good taste as well. Simple case of over-reactions and unnecessary comments--a deadly combo. Several months ago, I was new to the board and totally got 'flamed' and assaulted by the so-called 'best of the best. ' This type of conduct was completely unnecessary simply because I posted that I'd been offered $6k for an '01 Les Paul 59R. But for some love (affirming comments) from Serial and BCR I would've thought that this forum had a massive suck-factor (BUT it does not suck; this forum is amazingly cool and sadly, a bit goofy at times). Because of the way I was treated, I completely relate to the rude language seller, but do not condone nor appreciative his collective comments about the rest of us. Kilroy posts... I agree with you. I had a similar thing happen to me in another thread. I got my Daytona from a member here then sold it on Ebay and people managed to still talk about it here. It was like I got a good price for it so it offended other people or something. So I jokingly make a reference about the prices being cheap on this board and included myself as being cheap. I end up getting lectured by someone like I'm a schoolchild or something and I am lucky to get a USA Hamer like I need permission or something. This person knew nothing at all about me or any guitars I have bought and sold but wanted to tell me I'm not following the boys club rules. There are more than a few people that take this forum way to serious and need to get a life. The person who bought my guitar is very happy with it and that's all that matters. I like the HFC and enjoy reading info here but for sale comments are very unprofessional and don't help anybody.
paul144 Posted May 3, 2005 Author Posted May 3, 2005 Yeah...people around here love Hamers, but hate to pay above what Guitar Center will give you for a used one. And there are quite a few people around here who think they own the website. I can totally see you getting shit for making an extra $25 on one. Like you owe them a commission on it if you sell it for more than the guy sold it to you for. Its like a gang mentality around here. The old timers seem to like to put the new guys thru initiation or something. Compared to Gibsons, Hamers are a steal, even if you pay a hundred or so more than what the people here think they're worth. You want to get "Reamed"? Go buy a new 335 and try to sell it the next day.How can you be so loyal to a guitar company and be so friggin cheap? Are you getting reamed if you pay $150 more for a Fender strat than the going price, but its exactly what you want and a great guitar? After playing some new Gibsons, I'd pay $200 more for a used Hamer if it had everything I was looking for. And as long as Gibsons List prices keep going up, so will used Hamers.I wonder how many people bought a new Hamer here. Would you consider paying $1600 for a brand new Studio getting "reamed"? So if a used one pops up for $800-$850, whats the big deal? Maybe that's not enough of a bargain for you guys.$550 for a Daytona should be illegal. Show me a nitro finished custom strat for under $1400...thats what you'd have to pay for a comparable Grosh, Suhr or Anderson. And if you were blindfolded, who knows which you'd think was better.Basically, people should mind their own business, not someone elses. David E apologized, I apologized for the erased & reprinted post of mine. Does anyone have a problem if their Hamer collection's value increases? The website moderators should make FOR SALE ADS "read only", so no comments can be posted about them.
MCChris Posted May 3, 2005 Posted May 3, 2005 The website moderators should make FOR SALE ADS "read only", so no comments can be posted about them. Great idea, freshie! Couple that with a rule that requires people to have a certain amount of posts (like, say, 100) before they can sell stuff and you've got a winning formula!
silentman Posted May 3, 2005 Posted May 3, 2005 I thoght you needed supporter status to start a post in this forum?
Guest galejt Posted May 3, 2005 Posted May 3, 2005 I thoght you needed supporter status to start a post in this forum? No. Yust the outa limits! <cue eerie music>
serial Posted May 3, 2005 Posted May 3, 2005 Paul144-whether your price was too high or not is irrelevant. Frankly I dont' give a rat's ass if you want to ask $1500 for a guitar that usually sells for $500. Understand this though, you can't come in to a forum where many people know each other personally and most of us have met face to face, jammed, drunk a few beers, etc with guns blazing and expect to win over any fans. This board has its share of idosyncratic behavior, but you'd be hard pressed to find a better group of people on the net (and in real life). This board's been around longer than just about any brand-specific fan club (well, the original Telecaster Discussion page was started around the same time I suppose) on the internet. Sidle up and learn how things work without blasting people. Many of the people that you jumped on are long-time members with excellent dealing records here.Agreed that Hamers are undervalued, but the members here are keenly aware of the market. Sure, there are always "market busters" out there who will see something that they want and pay what they (and likely the rest of the civilized world) deems a fair price. Sometimes that can be a shock to those of us who are used to $350 NOT being an unreasonable offer for a used Hamer!
mutronboy Posted June 5, 2005 Posted June 5, 2005 I'm a newbie, and I was checking out this thread regarding Hamer prices..Frankly I'm surprised how cheaply US Hamers can sell for...I'm a bit out of touch with it, being in Australia and all...but I've horse-traded guitars for 30 years and I've had my share of US Hamers..they're greatI think it's what happens when a company starts doing imports...Epiphone being the classic example...up until recently a Gibson-made Epi would only bring a fraction of the equivalent Gibson model...I bet the same thing will happen with used US Parkers now that they're doing the imports for $579Just my two cents worthNow...I just gotta find that guy that offered me the pink Californian for $400 !!Peace
earachemyeye Posted June 5, 2005 Posted June 5, 2005 Let's see...." I'm going to go the Hamer Fan Club- the people who most likely know more about Hamers than anywhere else on the Net, and zamboozle one of them into paying a high price for my used guitar." Just doesn't make sense to me.Joe
mutronboy Posted June 5, 2005 Posted June 5, 2005 I'm not saying they should be more expensive...it's good for us enthusiasts to be able to get them at fair prices..especially the US modelsI've always sold them cheaply...but they do go cheaply in Australia..I've only ever had Prototypes, a Phantom, a pair of matching black Vectors, a pink Scarab and a pink Steve Stephens (is that the right spelling?)They were always better than Gibsons...in my opinionI'd sure go for a nice original Sunburst...but they don't turn up over here..Peace
