ettev Posted May 1, 2007 Posted May 1, 2007 My boy and 2 of his buddies are in their 8th grade talent show the end of this month. He plays drums and the 2 other boys are on guitar. All are what I'd consider very good for kids of this age. The one kid on guitar is just flat out great. They need a song selection that they can get thru in approximately 3 minutes. Any suggestions? I told them to do something that everyone knows and could get into. I was thinking Rock n' Roll All Night by Kiss and chopping down the solo a bit.Keep in mind as of now they don't have a bass player.Suggestions?
Jeff R Posted May 1, 2007 Posted May 1, 2007 Considering their age, crowd's age, three-piece band and the nature of the show, I'd go with a upbeat and current Green Day song. All of my 15-year old's and my 10-year-old's friends know that stuff and love it, and it's pretty easy to play and sing.

MCChris Posted May 1, 2007 Posted May 1, 2007 Green Day is probably the best bet. Fall Out Boy and Jimmy Eat World might work too.At a talent show during my younger years the school's king shit band played "N.I.B." Those were the days ....

My school's king shit band played "Black Dog" and "Misty Mountain Hop," and very well. My band played "Purple Haze." We sounded more like Jimmy Walker than Jimi Hendrix.

My school's king shit band played "Black Dog" and "Misty Mountain Hop," and very well. i was in my schools "king shit band" (i peaked early in life!). 7th grade we did paranoid, sweet emotion, & shot down in flames;8th grade we did what do you do for money honey, train kept a rolling,& (local dallas band the telefones') jerry godzilla.9th grade we missed the 1st show meeting and the bitch teacher kicked us out!
serial Posted May 2, 2007 Posted May 2, 2007 Just watch the lyrics on the Green Day stuff. Some of 'em have sneaky lil four letter words in 'em. THAT might not go over well.
ettev Posted May 3, 2007 Author Posted May 3, 2007 I actually suggested that for this particular go-around they get a girl vocalist and do that new Avril Lavigne "Girlfriend" song. Didn't go over very well. I'm just thinking of the residual effects and benefits my kid & his 2 buddies could experience by appealing to fairer sex at this age. Just me looking out for his best interest. Maybe me wishing I was his age again?
Guest pirateflynn Posted May 3, 2007 Posted May 3, 2007 I'm probably the only guy who isn't suggesting Green Day. My 13 year old son performed in the school talent show last year. While two or three other bands played Green Day songs his band wisely chose The Cars "Just What I Needed" and it was a hit, a big hit.
ettev Posted May 4, 2007 Author Posted May 4, 2007 Well they're doing something I've never heard of before. A song called Breaking My Own Heart from a band called Haste The Day.Pulled it off Limewire and it's the exact kind of music I hate. It's supposed to be pretty well known by the school kids though, so what the hell do I know?!?! After hearing it I tried talking them into Twisted Transistor by Korn. Less "death growling" for vocals. We'll see.Man, at 43 am I that out of touch already?
