A true classic.

I might have to bust out my original album with the paper dolls and give it a listen for ol times sake.

Hang onto that. Original pressings of Beatles albums in good condition don't come cheap or plentiful these days. My original pressing Sgt. Peppers and Magical Mystery Tour got ruined in a flood. I wish I could have kept them.

I have the CD reissue but it doesn't give me the same pleasure the LP did.

It was front page news in the paper this morning. Had a shadowbox of the album cover and identified the heads. Hahaha the dick who was painted out because he wanted to be paid. Haha. <a voce Nelson>

That album just changed the face of popmusic...

I was 10 when "Meet the Beatles" was released and they played on Ed Sullivan. Even back then I was more of a jazz fan and sort of held back when it came to buying pop music, though I played plenty of it on the radio and heard plenty of Beatles albums at friends' houses. But when "Sgt. Peppers" came out I could no longer be content with that tangential relationship and bought my own copy, my first Beatles album. After that I couldn't wait for the next and got "Magical Mystery Tour" about as soon as it came out.

Now I wish I had them all on vinyl. 40 years later and I'm still astounded with what Sgt. Peppers achieved in its time.

'Scuse any redundancy if I've posted this B4: Part of my standard rhetoric when I speak to civic clubs, conventions and even church groups about old guitars (and I take some to display) is to opine that the most creative 5-6 years in the history of American music was from about 1967 to 1972 or '73. beginning w/ SGT. PEPPER and most likely ending with TUBULAR BELLS. The paradox is that the same era also heralded profound changes in the American guitar market (budget mfrs. going belly-up, Gibson and Fender starting to decline). I note "The Beatles had alluded to going beyond cutesy pop songs on REVOLVER and RUBBER SOUL, but I don't think anyone was prepared for the milestone that SGT. PEPPER was...and still is."

Sgt. Pepper was the centerpiece of what I consider to be the greatest run of rock/pop music ever. Starting with

Rubber Soul-->Revolver--> Sgt. Peppers--> Magical Mystery Tour--> White Album--> Abbey Road all done within a span of less that 5 years. Incredible and only a handful of stinkers in the whole lot!!

Strangely, I own Revolver, Magical Mystery Tour, and Abbey Road, but not Sgt Pepper's or the White Album. Honestly, I don't know what's wrong with me.

It is also amazing that the whole album was done on a 4 track.

I've been a Beatles fan since I first saw them on Ed Sullivan as a kid.

Sgt. Pepper had more impact than any album I can recall. Only one I can think of even in the ballpark was Are You Experienced?

You're absolutely right. I've been contemplating this thread, and I have to ask, has any other band or performer put together 5 straight albums of original material that can approach this consecutive 5-album juggernaut?

And I am soooooooooooooo jazzed. Previously I mentioned that I wish I had all the Beatles albums on vinyl. Beginning with its original release, I've always balked at the monetary outlay for the White Album. But yesterday at my stepson's insistence, we went to a used record store. After sifting through the 99-cent bins and coming out with an armload, I went over to the Beatles bin. There were two White albums in good shape, both with the embossed title rather than the printed one. One was an early USA pressing, the other was a UK 1986 pressing. Fortunately I was able to play them in the store. The early US pressing KICKED ASS! Listening to Back in the USSR had me dancing like a fool at this record store and it was only $18.99. I snatched it up and returned my 99-cent specials to the bargain bin.

This thing is a treasure. And this store has great wax in excellent condition at affordable prices. I'll be returning soon for Abbey Road and Sgt. Peppers. Gawd I miss'em.

It is also amazing that the whole album was done on a 4 track.

IIRC from a George Martin interview, they actually had 8 tracks to work from by syncing up four 2-tracks. Still amazing, especially to do that much track jockeying and have such good fidelity.

Most of the Beatles albums sound really good. At least from Rubber Soul on they have an intimate sound like you're in the room with them. I'm having the best time playing Beatles vinyl on a much better rig than I had during the Beatles era. The vinyl albums are a revelation.

There were six albums listed there.

Love Sgt.Peppers!

I have most, if not all, Beatles albums..some still in shrink wrap that were given to me by my family (huge Beatles fans). Wonder if they're worth any good money? They've been treated well over the years and I wouldn't mind selling them if I could make some coin. I have most of their catalog digitized so to the albums really don't mean much to me (i'm a huge beatles fan btw..but don't really care that I have a ton of vinyl by 'em).

"Wonder if they're worth any good money?"

Are you shitting me??

When you say "still in shrink wrap" do you mean "still sealed"?

Most of the Beatles albums pull more money than those of their contemporaries, but some bring some pretty good money. For example, early pressings (e.g., 1967 "Sgt. Peppers," 1968 White album, 1964 "Meet the Beatles," etc.) bring more money, first pressings from the country of origin bring more money (e.g., 1965 UK Parlophone pressing of "Rubber Soul"), vintage albums still sealed, etc. A still-sealed vintage album would bring the most, and it's hard saying how much that would be. Hundreds.

Check some completed auctions on ebay to get some idea. Call some local used LP stores. Really good condition versions of "Meet the Beatles" can run $60 to $180. It's hard to find a pre-1980s Sgt. Pepper in any condition under $20-30.

Yeah..still sealed. I think I have a Meet The Beatles still sealed. I'll pull the box outta the storage closet tomorrow and post what I have that's still sealed. Maybe you could give me some info on the worth of what I have or some ballpark figure? I know a few of 'em still have the price sticker on the shrinkwrap. Thanks for the info JB. Time to do some research methinks.

I just noticed.

This Beatles pic reminds me of KISS. In '78 KISS went with a color

scheme for each member. The colors the Beatles used, are the same ones

KI$$ used at that period of their career. Paul and Gene are big Beatles

fans, so that may have been their inspiration, for

the Dynasty period of

KI$$dom.

HERE's a starting point. And this was just a 3-day auction.

What a rip! The price tag clearly reads $2.97!
