kizanski Posted June 17, 2007 Posted June 17, 2007 It's a run-of-the-mill '95 Standard Custom in '59Burst.$1200 guitar - NOT a "1980s Era," like the ad says.
gerry Posted June 17, 2007 Author Posted June 17, 2007 how can possible buyers who are not so well informed about hamers kept away from such a missinformation. i mean between a 80s standard and a 95 standard should be a big difference in price.
kizanski Posted June 17, 2007 Posted June 17, 2007 i mean between a 80s standard and a 95 standard should be a big difference in price.Absolutely. A couple of grand, easy.
Guest pirateflynn Posted June 17, 2007 Posted June 17, 2007 how can possible buyers who are not so well informed about hamers kept away from such a missinformation. When buying used, especially on ebay, you must do your homework first. Once you're hooked emotionally over a piece, it's over. You did the right thing by asking over here.As for the seller, he probably doesn't know the difference.
David B Posted June 17, 2007 Posted June 17, 2007 I told the seller as soon as I saw that & he has not posted it. It is a 1995 & Kiz is 100% right on the value.
gerry Posted June 17, 2007 Author Posted June 17, 2007 i am not interested in the guitar anyway. i am only going for 4 digits, but i wanted to get only a confirmation from here if it is a 95 guitar. i send the info to the seller and told him that he gives incorrect information. how can possible buyers who are not so well informed about hamers kept away from such a missinformation. BTMN Posted June 17, 2007 Posted June 17, 2007 Many of them dont care and a few outright lie cause it is after the Internet. Lots of folks think they cant be found out. Buyer beware, buyer be aware.
kizanski Posted June 23, 2007 Posted June 23, 2007 Well, he did revise his ad,but that didn't stop people from bidding too much money for it (the bidding continued even after the update). No way that guitar is worth $1500.
Crwth145 Posted June 23, 2007 Posted June 23, 2007 I tried politely asking what his reserve might be, to which he responded with this: "...this one was a limited release per Hamer Guitars. The MSRP was closer to $3300 when it was in production..."This was after he revised the listing, never offering the reserve.

That guitar didn't list anywhere CLOSE to $3300 in 1995! MAYBE List price was $1495 or $1995 even, but no WAY $3300. That's just a little under current list!

As a matter of fact, the only truth to it was that the guitar was in fact a Hamer. As for the "limited release" and he MSRP number - uh-uh.
Armitage Posted June 24, 2007 Posted June 24, 2007 I wonder how many Standards (or Standard Customs) were done in 95... I don't think too many.
kizanski Posted June 24, 2007 Posted June 24, 2007 I wonder how many Standards (or Standard Customs) were done in 95... I don't think too many.'95 Standard Customs see to be plentiful (even I had one). And they always seem to be '59'burst.

You're right, and it felt pretty cheesy asking; first time I've done that. Thought I'd try it considering the suspiscious nature and series of events. His answer was right in line with what some of us thought his original intent to be...
Armitage Posted June 25, 2007 Posted June 25, 2007 Do you guys actually think a mint '95 Standard Custom isn't 'worth' $1500? Wow. I've played a lot less that cost a lot more.If you guys have a bunch of mint Standard Customs you want to let go for a grand.... let me know.

I've played a lot less that cost a lot more.If you guys have a bunch of mint Standard Customs you want to let go for a grand.... let me know.Gimme a break. For a few hundred more than what that one sold for, you could get a brand new one.Hamers have always sold for less than they're worth. Is that a secret around here? Of course they're under-valued. That's one of the things we like about the brand in general. This is the first '95 Standard Custom ("Mint" or otherwise) that I've seen go for more than $1200 - $1300 that wasn't in a color other than '59'burst - that's all I'm saying.cmatthes had a '95 that had a different headstock and I beleive it was a custom order right before they became a catalog item. That one sold for more becuase it was worth more.

That one sold for more becuase it was worth more. That was a '91 that I custom-ordered in 1990. I bought a '95 Standard in '59 Burst new from a dealer (Dave's Guitars) in '95 for under $1,300. Believe it or not, I have sold two '95 Standards in '59 Burst - one for $1,200 and one for slightly more. I don't think that even the '59 Burst mid-90s Standards are $1,000 guitars any more - the price on the '90s Hamers are definitely inching up. I'm not surprised to see one go for $1,500 these days, but it is more than I'd pay right now for one of those (For many people though, it's far better than waiting 4-6 months and paying another $1,000 for a new one). Sadly, I don't think I'll be able to find a Mahogany '90s Standard for less than $900 any more!Still - I agree that the auction dood is a complete tool.

Well, more to the point, then.Yes, the end of the sub-$900 Mahogany Standard era is definitely a sad thing. That was the best bargain on a used Hamer out there, right along with the "80 Specials that were almost being given away.
flarocks Posted June 26, 2007 Posted June 26, 2007 I just joined this board because of my love of Hamer guitars. I presently own a 93 quilt special fm that I adore but in the past I have owned Chapperals, a Californian Custom, a 95 standard, a 1980 sunburst, a 79 sunburst and a Vector. I have always had a serious emotional and sentimental attachment to these guitars although as of late I have been an Ibanez fan (primarily JEMS and JS's). The last 2 I had were a 95 standard dot inlay in 59 burst and a Chapperal custom that was stolen and never retrived. I frequent many forums including Jemsite, The les paul forum, line 6 and peavey and as of late I love this one too. Now, here is my rant. I am the guy who spent $1500 on a 95 Hamer custom Standard that you all seem to be all to eager to devalue. I checked this forum and even contributed to a thread about the auction. I know that when they were new they were $1800+ list....maybe you could get one discounted around 1400...I know this but I still feel like after reading this thread that most of you look at it like "Who would pay that much for this..?". Well, I would. It is an awesome instrument and terribly underrated. I sold my Standard three years ago for 1300 and it wasn't a custom. I saw a blueburst here go for 1500...SO WHAT. The overwhelming opinion here should be how cool the guitar is and how the values are going up. Not making a buyer feel like he may have gotten ripped off because some of you feel I'm crazy for spending that much. I was skeptical of the auction at first as well but Jamie, the guy I bought it from has turned out to be one of the coolest cats I have ever dealt with on Ebay, PERIOD. I am glad I bought this and to me this guitar and vintage are well worth the money I spent and thats what matters most. This guitar was similar enough to the one I had that I was compelled to win it. It just makes me feel bad that some opinions on this board make me feel as if I got railed, and that just tarnishes the investment and the time I spent reading and researching on this board. It was worth it to me and as part of this forum that is what should matter most to you guys. Thanks for listeningJim
