LostArt Posted January 22, 2008 Posted January 22, 2008 Just got back from Namm. As usual it was another busy and productive show. The Hamer offerings were very nice, the mary Kay quad had an interesting flair with the gretsch style knobs on the 3 position switch. So far everyone is tight lipped on the Fender thing and everyone seems to think it will all "work out". Time will tell. On the Ovation side there was only the 08 collectors that really interested me in acoustics. There were several nice vxt's with flame tops. I was unimpressed by the slipknot and the nikki sixx heroin diaries guitars.Olyumpus put out a really nice small stereo digital recorder that can take up to 8 gig cards and record for ungodly long times. they list at 399 and should be available in a month or so.I demoed the Benchmark DAC digital to Analog convertor. It is very good but I like the Lavryengineering.com DA 10 better. If you are into recording or you are an audiophile you need one in your system. Finally hooked up the Moog, I will be carring their pedals and therimens. The detals have not yet been hashed out but should be by the end of the week. Checked out Composite acoustics, they seem to be getting better from what they offered a few years ago. Breedlove is now making electrics and PRS acoustics (one of the PRS acoustics had finish cracks) so the world is upside down. Talked at length to Cindy Benedetto. Bob was home nursing a bad back so Cindy was doing the Namm chores. I swear that woman has a fantastic memory for names dates times and places. Bob's guitars were awesome as usual. Nik Huber had a really nice guitar in mediterranean blue. wow I loved that color. It went home with tonejunkee. I hope to hook up with Nik soon. Vox put out a new line of guitar and they were kinda cool no they do not resemble the vox of old they are all new designs. Funny was the plastic pickup surrounds were all cracked on their guitars. Looks like they need a new supplier. Taylor electrics ? give me a break Collings electrics? why? the acoustics are so nice. Gibson buys TC electronics. All in all a great time got to spend time with some olf friends and meet some new ones. counting the days till next year.
cmatthes Posted January 22, 2008 Posted January 22, 2008 Thanks for the recap, Al. I saw the PRS acoustics (Briefly) in September - the various racing sailboat inlays were different - but didn't get to try one out. Finish cracks on a NAMM guitar is not a good thing!Definitely agree with you on the Collings and Taylor electrics...WHY?!Sounds like you had a good time.
silentman Posted January 22, 2008 Posted January 22, 2008 I didn't see acoustics though they have a few new semi-hollows:http://www.prsguitars.com/news/2008/11708_newmodels.htmlhttp://www.prsguitars.com/namm08/index.html
SteveB Posted January 22, 2008 Posted January 22, 2008 PRS acoustics? That's a new one on me.They seem to be Private Stock only from what I've been hearing. a Joe Knaggs project.Definitely agree with you on the Collings and Taylor electrics...WHY?!I don't get that either, especially since their designs are nothing groundbreaking and kinda ugly.
serial Posted January 22, 2008 Posted January 22, 2008 PRS made (I think 2) acoustics in the 90s, but like their amplifiers, they didn't go anywhere. I think I also heard that they were Private Stock stuff only too. I actually like the Breedlove electrics that I've seen. It took some warming up to the body shape at first, but they are extremely well-made and play great. A Slipknot or Nikki Sixx Ovation? Wow-I'll hafta agree with you there!
AdmiralB Posted January 22, 2008 Posted January 22, 2008 Gibson buys TC electronics. Looks like the other way 'round, to me.

serial Posted January 22, 2008 Posted January 22, 2008 the PRS acoustics are branded cheasapeakeI drove past the Stevensville exit on Rt 50 yesterday around noon and was tempted just to swing by to see if Stike was there.... Interesting question whether PRS would do better with a line of "PRS" branded acoustics or not. Unless you're from the Eastern Shore or somewhere in the area, I don't know that the Chesapeake name really says "acoustic guitar"! Also too close to "Cheesy" for my liking.

Guest JackButler Posted January 22, 2008 Posted January 22, 2008 They had a full line of acoustics and also had some full on GIANT hollowbodies/jazzboxes on display. HUGE guitars.
thecajunboy Posted January 22, 2008 Posted January 22, 2008 Finally hooked up the Moog, I will be carring their -SNIP- therimens. People actually buy those things? Seriously though, I've kinda always wanted one because they were techno geeky kinda different.
LostArt Posted January 22, 2008 Author Posted January 22, 2008 yup therimens are very cool. I would not pick them up if I did not think I could sell them. OK OK OK I always wanted one myself. the order has not yet been placed, if you are interested let me know LOL
