holLoWskull Posted March 7, 2008 Posted March 7, 2008 What pickups in that beauty? 59/JB set?I believe they are orig equip 59/JB but if you like I can peel it open & check tonight.noonanIf Caddie hasn't changed them in the guitar, they're the typical Hamer choice for that era: zebra 59' neck/ black JB bridge. I used to own this beauty and it's every bit as nice as Caddie describes. Don't fault his photography, it's a very tough color to capture with a typical digital camera....always seems more maroon, but in person it is more grape/violet just as he states. +1 for Caddie as well as the guitar.
BubbaVO Posted March 8, 2008 Posted March 8, 2008 what's the difference between purple and blue ...the grip.Congrats to both parties. That one definitely grew on me.
Punkavenger Posted March 8, 2008 Posted March 8, 2008 yes yes cheers ... drinks all around thanks everyone and I'll be sure to give a full report this was my thought process ... I wanted a nice double cut after selling both my 94 archtop goldtop and 2003 Special I liked the body shape on both but didn't like the P90's on one and the vintage carve neck on the Special was just a skoosh too fat the medium neck on my 94 archtop was perfect so I'm hoping this one will be the same or at least very close. I was going to try and find a black archtop with humbuckers from the factory but by the time I found one (if ever) it would probably be around or way over $2000 I like the flat top better than the archtop anyway ... more punk rock I also wanted a wrap around bridge ... but what you gonna do? I also have heard several esteemed members of the HFC say that their Special FM was their favorite guitar in specific and the mid 90's Hamers in general were fan fuckin tastic SPEAK UP NOW WITH SPECIAL FM STORIES RANTS COMMENTS AND DIATRIBES, PLEASE ... I'm curious to hear them and the purple ... it's not something I would seek out personally but in this case it's really working for me. Plus... who has a purple guitar? ;)
Caddie Posted March 8, 2008 Author Posted March 8, 2008 Plus... who has a purple guitar? Talk to hollowskull. He has tried many times to detox from the grape Kool Aid. It gets in your blood. Just ask him about my Duo. Go ahead....ask him. noonan

I guess I'll have to change my name to "the artist formerly known to have no musical talent and still doesn't but at least he has this here purple geetar"

Just ask him about my Duo. Go ahead....ask him. noonan It is no secret that I am one of the few guys who actually covets purple USA Hamers (though I've foolishly let a few get away from me) That Indigo Duo of yours is elusive for sure Caddie, but I'm patient and am biding my time Anyway, Punkavenger you are getting a hell of a guitar in the FM you bought from Caddie. The boys at Hamer did a wonderful job with the refinish and they even put a new nut on when it was there (didn't need it, but I assume it made it easier to paint and it was slotted to perfection by the boys in CT). It is everything you could hope for if you like medium necks...weighs a little under 8 pounds, can get low action without buzz (if that's your thing), and totally rocks sound-wise. The ONLY reason I sold it was because I picked this up shortly after I got the FM back from Hamer: fatter "almost Hamer vintage" neck, insane low action, and wraptail won out...but not by much. Enjoy your new FM and enjoy the grape Kool aid as Caddie puts it
Punkavenger Posted March 9, 2008 Posted March 9, 2008 Do you think i could put an 11-52 set on there like I did my Daytona? Do people put heavier strings on other guitars or is that just common with the strat styles? How do you like the TOM bridge as opposed to sustain block or wraptail?Should I consider a tone pros "upgrade" or would that just be a waste of money? If a train was leaving from Chicago ...
Travis Posted March 9, 2008 Posted March 9, 2008 All of my 24.75" guitars have 11's on them strung to A 440. My 25.5" guitars either have 11's tuned to A flat or 10's tuned to standard. So, I think you'll be fine with some 11's on that guitar. String it up and play it loud.
