BCR Greg Posted January 26, 2009 Posted January 26, 2009 Fantastic guitars, built by hand in Houston, Texas by a small group of dedicated craftsmen(sound familiar?). Different from Hamer, same quality and each guitar here was custom spec'ed by little old me. Avalon Quilt Top, chambered Fakimba body, 6.8 lbs, huge neck, nickel hardware, I selected the top out of 15 billets last time I was in Houston, in the best trans black finish in the industry... Ranger Trem Custom, Seafoam with matching reverse headstock, Gotoh two point trem, MOP bits.... Fleetwood Wraparound Mahogany, 7.3 lbs of resonant Mahogany, BIG neck, stupidly resonant..... Handmade guitars for amazing prices.
BubbaVO Posted January 26, 2009 Posted January 26, 2009 What are the differences between the Avalon / Avada / Monaco Elite? I've warmed up to the latter. But it think the former two are hot! And that transblack is beyond smokin'!
Hamer of the gods Posted January 26, 2009 Posted January 26, 2009 The top on the Avalon looks like it's liquid! Too sick!
atquinn Posted January 26, 2009 Posted January 26, 2009 I've always thought the Robin Avalon is one of the few LP-inspired shapes out there that looks good (hello Monaco ) without slavishly aping the original. Rockin! -Austin
bubs_42 Posted January 26, 2009 Posted January 26, 2009 Damnit.. I've got to stop coming here. Just pack up that Avalon with my Sunburst..
hardheartedbill Posted January 27, 2009 Posted January 27, 2009 that blk firebird jr deal is pretty cool, and I hate pointy guitars
kurtsstuff Posted January 27, 2009 Posted January 27, 2009 why all the huge necks little fella? Over compensating???
BCR Greg Posted January 27, 2009 Author Posted January 27, 2009 Big necks sound better and lead to less hand fatigue.Scott and Kurt..........I'll deal with you guys later. (Opens weapons cabinet with a grin....)
musicman Posted January 27, 2009 Posted January 27, 2009 Very, very nice...+10,000 for huge necks!!!Are there any tuning issues due to the split "V" headstock and string routing?
BCR Greg Posted January 27, 2009 Author Posted January 27, 2009 Nope. They have a cool little string routing part that ensures proper break angle at the nut. You can see it at the truss rod cover. Genius!
Scottcrud Posted January 28, 2009 Posted January 28, 2009 I dunno, if I were to order a new Robin, and that's a BIG IF, I'd have them make me the same neck that's on my Raider. It's shred-o-riffic, slim-o-tastic, very comfy, I have no hand fatigue issues what-so-ever. And I'm not jacking with you , but you really think a big neck sounds better? Seriously? Cause I've owned some big necked SG's and Gibby V's and they don't sound any better than my Raider or my fast necked custom Mockingbird, in fact a few sounded much worse... But, I digress. Those Robins look GREAT.

Those Robins look GREAT.The few guitars that i've compared that were like builds with the only difference being the neck, the thicker neck sounded "better". The second harmonic popped out a little easier for me, and the sustain was a bit more even.BUT - it's impossible for me to say as i've never taken a fatty (neck) and slimmed it down and listened to the difference. Comparing two different guitars and trying to form a conclusion is risky, yeah? That being said, it kinda sucks that i like the sound of the thicker necks, 'cause i'm a shredder at heart. All those years playing that Cali and all... As always, opinions vary - trust yer own ears.
jisham Posted January 28, 2009 Posted January 28, 2009 That Sea Foam Greenie is a beauty!+1,000,000. I can't count the times I've lusted over that one on Greg's website. If I had the scratch, I'd be all over it. Coolest Robin evah IMO.

Saw this one in person and got to check it out-WOW. I've never been enough of a fan of the Robin stuff to pull the trigger on one, but this guitar is stunning.
BCR Greg Posted February 1, 2009 Author Posted February 1, 2009 The Avalon has left the building, thanks for playing.
