Aceldama Posted January 28, 2009 Posted January 28, 2009 Saw this on the bay. I have a neck plate, screws and an EMG-DG set that I can slam in there. Seems a little high to me though. What are your thoughts?Daytona Parts
sw686blue Posted January 28, 2009 Posted January 28, 2009 I saw that one too but after some thought, I don't think it makes much sense. For another $200 you'll get a complete guitar including the name on the headstock.
silentman Posted January 28, 2009 Posted January 28, 2009 Price seems OK for all you are getting there. Figure around $125 each for neck and body. You are also getting trem and tuners.
rooster69f Posted January 28, 2009 Posted January 28, 2009 I debated buying it, but I know what will happen.... it will sit in a box forever and I just won't get around to it.But it looks good if you have the motivation. I emailed the seller to get some detail, asking him for as much specifics as he could give to convince me it was all legit. Here is his reply, and it sounds like he knows his stuff fairly well:"All I can say is that everything is correct about it- the hardware (Original Wilkinson bridge) is the only bridgethat has been on this guitar. the trem route cavity s correct as isthe counter sunk back plate for the trem cavity. The route underthe guard (if there was a guard) is correct as is the shieldingpaint in the cavity. It has the original finish and nothing hasbeen altered/modified to make things 'work'. You can tell it'sash from the unfinished neck pocket.the neck has the proper 14 1/2" radius and the properheadstock shape. You can tell it has not been shaped into thisshape and you can see where the Hamer logo was sanded off.the drop angle behind the nut is correct too - like a 50's Strat,Truss rod adjustment and size of nut is correct as is the originallocking Sperzels... no other machine heads have been on thisneck. The thing is it's a great 'modern' American strat. Someoneprobably either didn't want people to confuse it with a cheapHamer Slammer or was sensitive about the Hamer name beingon the headstock and having the name be associated with 'heavymetal' guitars, I dunno. I got it like this with a pickguardassembled with retro fit rio grande strat pickups - that I sold.Hope this helps! "I just paid $600 for a 96 Daytona in decent shape, but it has a rosewood board. Would very much like to have Maple, and that is what this one is.
serial Posted January 28, 2009 Posted January 28, 2009 If it doesn't have a serial number stamped into the back of the headstock, it isn't worth much of anything.I can't see the posts, but w/o a serial #, it most likely is NOT a USA model. An import project isn't worth a few dollars IMHO. The Wilkie would seem to indicate that it's a USA, but w/o being able to see it, I can't weigh in.As for successful Daytona "projects" look no further than this for the potential...Daytona

It's 436883.Wow to the Daytona w/Filtertrons!
cmatthes Posted January 28, 2009 Posted January 28, 2009 It is a USA Maple-necked Daytona. If I recall, it's a '94 SN (??). It is kind of on the higher end of a good deal at $320 minimum. No case, no logo, no pickups/guard and no jack. Would probably run you another $200+ to get it together, and then a good bit more if you even wanted to attempt to find a Hamer case. I'd probably just hold out for a stock Daytona at that point, but it might still be a good deal/project for somebody else.
Aceldama Posted January 28, 2009 Author Posted January 28, 2009 I was thinking of jumping, but you guys are right. I passed on a local Daytona for $600.
bubs_42 Posted January 28, 2009 Posted January 28, 2009 I was thinking of jumping, but you guys are right. I passed on a local Daytona for $600. Wait a minute son. You don't pass on a Daytona you buy it and send it my way.. I have two guys and thought about this one but I figure I would just wait for a complete one. I my have one coming up F/S so keep an eye out. That's a big maybe... They Mattes, I hope you know a good Lawyer, I'm blind after lookin at that SparkleCaster... I have a Daytona that appears to have been ordered with larger frets and a nice size neck that would look good in a Sparkle finnish. HUM..

hardheartedbill Posted January 29, 2009 Posted January 29, 2009 many of those are super heavy, I had a killer looking sunburst ash w/ maple neck, was more than a LP custom, insanely heavy, just so ya know
cmatthes Posted January 29, 2009 Posted January 29, 2009 I've gotten lucky with mine - the orange sparkle one above is even lighter than the orange trans one was(is). I almost bought a trans green ash one 7-8 years ago, but like Bill said, the thing weighed at least a ton. Just couldn't do it!
